OK, so maybe thats a bit extreme, but it certainly has a large amount of truth in it.

So, basically all the new technology needs to be properly "liscensed" in order to use. What does that mean for you? Well, it means that you will either have to buy over-priced, under-featured software from microsoft or apple in order to play your new "vastly improved" discs. You will need a brand new monitor, because your old one isn't "secure".
The new formats will not be usable on open source systems until another DVD Jon comes around. Well, that is if they don't get deported. Either way, if you watch your blueray or hd-dvd on a linux OS, you're breaking the law unless you're using a program that has a liscense (highly unlikely).
I'll stick to DVD's and current OS's.

You do realize if the RIAA comes to your house you have broken the law? Breaking the law is wrong. Don't worry so much. We will find a way around every obstacle. We always do. A good example is what happened after Napster died. After Napster died, we found Kazaa, now Kazaa is dieing, and people are drifting towards other p2p's like bittorent, and Mirc. I'm not encouraging people to find a way to illegally share files, but I'm proving that despite what you say there will always be a way around anything. I do agree on that stupid new monitor thing though, that is crap. Well I guess, it doesn't matter for me since i'm still on a CRT, and will most likely buy a new SONY monitor in the upcoming year.Last edited by Krusnik; 09-06-2005, 02:16 AM.

It's wrong to steal music and movies. However, I feel it is also wrong to prevent an end user from being able to actually watch, view, or backup their own media however they choose. It is also wrong to force poeple to buy specific software and hardware on which to play them.
That would be like the goverment forcing everyone to buy fords because people steal cars and ford has a very good anti-theft protection system, but only in new cars. So everyone has to buy new cars or pay a lot to put in the new anti-theft system. I mean, you need to upgrade your car soon I'm sure. After all, with the price of gas going up, everyone will be getting new electric hybrids. <_<
