Router.

Hey can anyone suggest a nice router to buy?.

preferably with wirless so far i have only used belkin and the interface that is used im not too keen on.
So if you have or know of a stable product please recommend.

Price is an issue but if the product is worth it please post and ill take a look im hoping to get one for xmas from my girl.

I have 3 pc's that i need to connect up as a network Fileshare and printshare.
i also want the wireless as so when im toking in my car outside i can play subspace on my laptop or when friends come over to avoid the leads.
It needs to have ok distance as my brother is down the hallway and he will want to use my line from time to time.

Problems i have had before using routers which is why i want your help.

Sometimes MSN logs in and out WTF is that about lol. so needs to be stable.

i need all computers not to be hidden away from the net.
With this i mean i need computers to do different jobs.
- 1 will be for gaming
- 2 Ftp program and website stuff untill i get my ftp server box
- 3 webcam and voice chat programmes
so i need all this to not be behind a firewall although i know i can open ports i need to know about the ips, will the router keep the pc's ips? or will they change? if they do my webcam streaming url will be different meh!

so i need a router to do all the above and extra features that you may know of.

i have a fairly decent one at home. kinda meets your requirements. its called a Netgear Wireless ADSL Firewall Router. idk if thats a help

I use a Linksys Wireless-G router I think... It seems to work fine for wireless and wired connections. Its amusing because I have both a wired and wireless ethernet card in my computer atm - I wonder if I can use them both at the same time..........

But yeah, it does the job as far as I know.

Get a d-link, then have the cable running from the main cpu into the D-LINK, then another running from the D-LINK to the router.. and just plug the other cables from the child cpu's into the d-link

I'm using that.
Except, i use 1 computer to do eveything you need 3 computers for, and it's just fine.
And they're giving us 1MB broadband now which is l33t.

P.S With this cable modem thing, can i use it for PS2 Online because i might get it for christmas. :greedy:

yea i could wire it up easy, but im sick of using one pc for everything as if one goes down thats it your trucked untill it gets fixed.

I just want a reliable router that does evrything i need, but what hyd said to link them the way your saying would make the router give different ips to the other computers and the main computer will be the only one that will stay consistant which is not what i want.

i want the router to do the work and the computers to be switched on when and if i want them on not having to rely on one pc to be on for the others to connect to the net.

well my birthday is coming up and im getting a few things.

pen tablet (which i have never used before, i hope these do wonders for desining with photoshop, but i have never seen one working either!)

I have a Netgear one, it's pretty reliable and has a nice interface. I've used the Admin interface on a Linksys, D-Link and Netgear, and this one is by far the easiest/nicest.
