Remote Access

Ok we have a wireless network in my house. The PC in my room is normally being used by me to download torrents of some sort. Is there any way for me to be able to pause / resume these torrents using one of the computers downstairs, to save me trudging upstairs to the computer? I know it sounds kinda lazy, but I often just need to pause it temporarily to download something small down here or to play a quick game. I tried using remote desktop, but it seems that is more for just logging on to the computer, and I can't see what's already open if you get my meaning.

server on the upstairs, connect with the client downstairs. If you install the server as a "service" it will start after a reboot so you can even reboot and login remotely.

Just remember that by default, VNC is not a secure protocol. So if you are going to use it over a public network at some point I suggest tunneling it via SSH/VPN. Another option would be to use VNC software that supports encryption, UltraVNC for example.

And if I am logged in on the computer upstairs, will I be able to use the computer downstairs to then view whatever is on the desktop and manipulate the programs? So I can pause stuff on bit torrent etc or chat to people on MSN which is already open upstairs before connecting the VNC stuff?
