headphones

I have a great set of headphones, and a good sound card (SB Live! Value), but I can't get my headphones to work in both ears.

Here's a diagram of my computer hookup:

Computer----- Sub woofer ----- Right speaker ----- Left speaker

On the back of my computer, my sound card looks like this:

1 2 3 4 5

3 = line out
2 = microphone

I hook my headphones up through my Line Out, but I get no sound through them. The Line Out is what I usually hook my speakers up through.

Instead, usually I hook up my headphones through my right speaker, like this:

Computer----- Sub woofer ----- Right speaker ----- headphones ---//--- Left speaker (disconnected)

so I basically replace the left speaker with my headphones.

I get sound like this but it's only through my left "phone."

Anyone know what's going on?? I've had this problem forever and it's aggravating!!

P.S. anyone who plays CS would know how much headphones help.

i ahve the same sound card and had trhe same prblem as you...

there is different outputs to plug your headphones in to. In onw of them you can only use the left earphone.

but the other one is good plug it into the green hole and it will work. the one directly left of the microphone hole.

You mean in jack 3 of the picture above??

I've already tried that; I plugged the phones in and played an mp3. No sounds came out.

Do you use some kind of special software settings or something? or do you change any kind of audio settings when you plug it into jack 3?

OMG I'M RETARDED.

OK for anyone else who wants to read/needs the solution.

Double click on that little speaker on your task bar.

Go to Advanced options.

Unclick "Digital output only."

Done.

I played a CS scrim right after I fixed 'em, on T side I won 3 out of the 4 rounds we won, but we lost 13-11 anyways. :P
