  • Computer keeps rebooting!

    hey again,

i'm back, but with a more serious problem then bandwidth.. it all started a few days ago when my sister got a virus, i'm networked to her computer so i thought i got it when my computer started shutting down and restarting autmatically, completely random, once a day or so.. Next i try to get rid of the virus on that computer and then all of a sudden my computer starts moving so slow, it couldnt even load continuum. I decided to reformat here, so i did. Reformatting took awhile, probly because the motherboard isnt the one from the factory with settings and such.. So anyway, now that its reformatted and all set up, in continuum i'm only getting 20 FPS on the lowest gfx qualities and advanced options set up for slow computers, before it was in the 150's. Also in CTRL+ALT+DELETE theres a bunch of programs i've never seen before, and i can't get them to go away without coming back. I ran norton, spybot, and adaware and removed all bad things... Still, my computer is running slow, and now the rebooting of it occurs randomly within an hour.. I'm out of options at a dead end, please help
p.s. Running windows xp, AMD Anthlon 64 processor 3200+

you could try to restore your system to the day before you started to get problem with your comp.

You can do it like this if you don't already know how to..

    Start - Programs - Accessories - Systemtools - Systemrestore

Then you just follow the guide.

    Think that should help..

        ow thats bad

the new programs that had been installed on your comp and always comes back, have you tried with searching after their exe files?

Also check the programs that starts automaticlly with windows, if you see any new programs that werent there before so remove them and reboot your comp after that and see if it's still has the same problem.

Was the virus removed from your sister's computer?

Do you use a router? Is that infected?

          Has your hardware failed?

Did you get all the correct drivers after re-formatting?

This isn't related to your problem anymore, but I have some advice for formatting.

Generally its a good idea to run FDISK instead of just formatting, if you dont already do it. When you format a drive it never seems to really get rid of everything. FDISK will write zeros across the drive, and you'll have to repartition, but it gets rid of everything. Also, sometimes viruses get loaded into memory. As a general rule if I'm formatiing to rid my computer of a virus I'll reset everything, including pulling out the bios battery, resetting the bios, and pulling out my RAM (I'm not sure if this one does any good, but I do it anyways).

Anyways, just a tip for those of you who are brave enough to format =).
