I use two anti-spyware programs, actually: Ad-aware and Spybot S&D. Each one seems to catch things that the other one misses every time I run them.

As far as A-V software goes, I've only ever used one that had no real downsides (hogging system resources, not doing its freaking job, etc.): Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

i dont use any anti-spyware/virus software at all...i just browse safe and use discretion when installing. it's not hard, at all.

Sometimes though a website you think is safe can be hacked and then u can be targeted with a web browerer exploit and get infected that way. i got hacked and i didnt even realise it. Only found out because i was getting strange lag in continuum, turned out after some packet sniffing that i was sending spam and that was causing the lag so i changed AV (AVG sucks ass it didnt even detect what i had) and killed the fucker.

doc - firefox has extensions that detect those sorts of things, and generally i only view a set of sites (twforums, news, digg, some webcomics, email, wikipedia, links off of any previously said site), and they're safe

for antivirus.

For adware, if it's prevention, then I guess Windows Defender is quite good ( http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx ) and it's free.

Obviously Ad-Aware and Spybot both get an honourable mention.

My Norton Antivirus that has been keeping my comp free of all kinds of shit for several years had its subscription expired, and the crack that relies on the code you get after not being able to connect to the net is gone now, they found out of the crack.

Is there a way to get a subscription key to Norton Antivirus 2005?

I feel kinda helpless without it, cause that antivirus is perfect. AVG (cracked full version), that most recommend feels gay and really bad compared to Norton Antivirus.

Doing a clean reinstall of your Operating system and reinstalling that software will give you another two months subscription

If you were to just uninstall and reinstall it would still have your old subscription and suck. That means somewhere in your registry it stores keys that aren't removed. If you can find them you are golden!
