  • go for a 64bit system or no?

Hey, I just bought myself a new cpu and motherboard (amd 3200 64bit) and i'm just want to know if I should stick with windows for 32bits system or should I go for a 64bit windows XP, because I know not everything can run on a 64bit system. Ewan told me continuum would run but I also wonna play other games once in a while and use other programs. So what are your opinions? 64bit or 32bit? let the fight begin!

hf getting drivers and programs that support a 64 bit system. Yes it is the way for the future, but its not ready yet. Older devices you may have will not have 64 bit support

If you have Windows XP 64 then install that - else you will be absolutely making no use of the 64 bits capabilities of your system if you use Windows XP 32 bits.
Keep in mind that Windows XP 64 bits can easily emulate a 32 bits environment so any software requiring 32 bits will run just fine.

As Izor already said, only the hardware (drivers) might give you some headaches but Windows xp 64 is already around for some time. So the newer hardware won't give you much problems.

Be sure to check if your system really supports the Windows XP 64 bits. I have seen multiple cases where there was a 64 bits processor but the motherboard didn't support 64 bits so there really was no use for the 64 bits processor.

(these comments are all relating to windows xp, i dont know what the situation is on other OS)

only reason to use 64-bit machine is if you have 64-bit software.

running 32-bit software/games on a 64-bit machine will reduce its performance to some degree as a compatibilty layer is introduced... some 32-bit software just plain doesnt work on a 64-bit computer i think the most notable of all was adobe acobat...

Don't install 64 bit windows, its pretty worthless at this point seeing as nothing works properly with it.

Wait for Windows Vista to come out, it will be in 64 bit format, and also I would get a processor that CAN handle 64 bit.. My computer right now is able to handle 64 bit and I can play any games I want

My computer can handle a 64 bit else I wouldn't ask if I should use a 64bit... and windows has a 64bit version too... I decided to not yet install the 64bit version because I want to make sure everything still works and I don't watn to install and then uninstall because i'm lazzy, kthx!

AMD 64 board/chipsets are backward compatible to 32 bit applications/drivers.

Your ok...just be happy it was not an Intel 64
