  • Different set of router troubles

Figured I'd start a new thread so maybe more people would look at it. Anyway. Have the typical Linksys G router, blue one. The router worked fine with my PC for a while, and still works fine with the mac laptop. However, now, it gets stuck on assigning the PC an ip address. I can connect to my neighbors un-password-protected network completely fine. Any thoughts on what might be wrong? I was messing around with the router settings but most of the setting seemed like gibberish to me.

If the Mac is getting IP addresses then you have to blame the Windows machine.

Check to make sure you have your computer set to get a dynamic IP address and you don't have a static IP filled in already. (On my machine under Connection status, it says- Address type: Assigned by DHCP). There's not much else in the way of settings.

If that doesn't work- reboot or disable/enable the connection in Windows.

ive done all the obvious stuff... all i can figure is that theres some setting i dont understand with the router. the mac, of course, is smart enough to figure out whats going on, and the pc is naturally retarded. aghhh. if there were something wrong with my wireless settings in general, why can i connect to the neighbor?

Strange....it sounds like everything is working- the router works (with the Mac) and the computer works (with neighbor's router). It's gotta be something "obvious".

Have you tried deleting the profile and re-entering the WEP key? If the WEP is messed sometimes it will say "connected" but it isn't really.

hey i have one of these routers

in my experience if you have checked all configurable settings ie mac address filtering / permissions reset to default and start again.

But also if you are connecting using wep try disabling all security and see you can connect then.

If not assign a static ip ito your machine if you want some help email me fairlights@f2s.com
