In the future if anyone has a simular problem use Microsoft's Process Explorer to identify and kill any processes you see acting abnormally, disable any startup items and non-Microsoft services in the MSCONFIG console that shouldn't be there (do not edit the registry unless you know what you're doing) reboot the computer and try to remove the virus(es) using Trend Micro's online virus scanner or AVG Free unless you have Norton or another up to date commercial product. The best thing is to not jump to conclusions. A virus is not the only thing that can cause system instability so just take note of any changes you've recently made. Deleting unknown files, making registry changes and using generic virus scanning software are all a waste of time and will likely cause more problems in the end.

Make sure your prefetch folder is clear. I can't remember the actual DIR but search for it, it's not hard to find)

Also make sure you can see hidden files. (In explorer: Tools -> Folder Options -> View and make sure the correct option is checked).

Hello guests. Yes, I gave up. This thing did some hardcore damage, and I couldn't track down all the junk it planted. I had to reformat. Good luck getting it off of your system, because even a thorough registry search and a HijackThis session didn't solve it for me.

Hmm, I had this problem a while ago. What I did was downloaded Continuum .39 at www.getcontinuum.com. From there I created a username, selected Trench Wars off the zone list, and began to fly a spaceship around. Seemed to be the right fix.

heres what you do:

1. find the nearest window (preferably 2nd floor or higher)
2. unplug computer
3. hurl computer out of window
4. yell "take that microsoft!"
5. buy new computer, make sure it has windows
6. wait an unspecified amount of time
7. repeat step 1-6

also you can try to remember the specific window from step #1 to help speed the process up the next time, thus you would only repeat steps 2-6
