  • Internet constantly disconnecting and reconnecting

My family "upgraded" to a 2wire at&t yahoo DSL cable box/router. Ever since then the DSL and internet lights will be solid green, then flash green, then flash red, and be permanently red for a few minutes. The longest internet connection I've been able to have is around 20 minutes. Just now they are flashing green again...

Anyways I've called tech support 3 times, no help. They try to run tests and they cant establish a connection with my computer. As soon as I can log on once to my internet, they say its fixed. I also now have in-game ploss from 27% to 3%, both S2C and C2S. The tech support people had no idea what packetloss was.

They also now make us use phone filters..all the phones plugged into a jack need one. We have them all on, but still the problem occurs.

Anyone have any frickin clue how to fix this?

Edit: here is a log of my trace:

I'm not 100% about this, but if I bothered I could look up this info in less than 10 minutes, and it isn't really relevant to your problem. It's more of criticism towards the support.

Internet data is sent through packages, and a faulty connection will sometimes fail in delivering the packets to the right IP.
    More about that here:

This is stuff that tech SHOULD know, I'm pretty amazed that they didn't. If I were you I'd call alot more, and demand that they found out. I've never heard of such bad support before, and you should deal with them accordingly. Hopefully you can either reach a competent person, or raise some hell towards the bad support.

Yeah I had to tell him what packetloss was and even then they didnt know what I was talking about. So far I've tried doing the "online tech chat" twice (stopped cuz my internet kept dying) so I moved to the phone tech support, called 3 times, etc..the last person I got gave me a ticket # and a case # and to call back tomorrow cuz the "maintenance group" in my area were off.

Are you using a surge supressor on the line? If so, remove it and see if it changes anything.

Is there noise on the phone line itself? (static type noises when you are on the the phone).

Try unplugging the ethernet cable going from the PC to the router/modem. Leave the modem up and running, does the connection still drop?

Do you have a filter for the phone? Same thing would happen to me. I asked them to send me another modem. Also my filter wasn't in correctly and that caused me to dc alot.

            just a thought

Go around an unplug all other phones see what happens. if you dont get dced then you know its a filter. Then plug them in one by one till it happens again. will elimnate the filter if there is a bad one.

Hmm..well I dont have a surge suppressor and I do have phone filters on (I did remove them all and then put them back in one at a time). I havent changed anything, and the internet has been connected all of yesterday and this morning so far. Dunno what happened. If it happens again, I'll try the suggestions you guys gave me. Thanks for helping!
