  • Common webpages are not loading anymore

This is getting really annoying. The past 2 weeks websites that I frequently visit are not working. They either take 10 mins to load or dont load at all anymore. They are major sites like msn.com or my university's website. I checked on two other computers, same problem. I tried searching Google for an answer but as I stupidly cleared my cookies yesterday I can only get Google in Italian (I'm in Italy for 3 months) and even when I go to Google Preferences to change the language English is not an option...anyways that's a different problem.

I'm also on wireless. I found a few results about setting a DNS ip up in my network connections but I have no idea where to find my DNS ip...

Everything was working in Italy before 2 weeks ago, anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Edit: I found this link that is able to bypass whatever is blocking my sites, but it spams me with ads and pop-ups kind of mixed in the background of the webpages: polysolve.com ...my question is what is it doing to make my sites load?

unless your house is an ISP, you might just be having "connection issues"

there are so many things it could be... AV/FW, browser issues, spyware, adware, etc.

if it helps you, you can find your dns servers by using the 'nslookup' command in the command prompt. I would advise disabling your AV/FW temporarily and seeing if that fixes the problem. You also might want to try some free adware/spyware removal software like adaware or spybot:search and destroy. You can find both at http://www.download.com/.

To check if it is an DNS issue or not is easy. Simply type the IP of the web site into the address bar instead of the name. If the site loads quickly and correctly with the IP but not the name, then it is a DNS issue.

Note: To find the IP of a web site, simply go to a DOS prompt and type

            ping www.google.com

it will reply with somehting like

            Reply from 216.239.51.99: bytes=32 time=42ms TTL=236

the internet is like a giant fucking road map except the roads are wires, and just like roads, sometimes they're under construction. in either case the cars (here, our metaphorical pieces of data) still get to the intended destination... just takes a bit longer.

it's the same reason people sometimes lag real bad, even on a good connection... there's a crappy connection somewhere else that handles the data and borks things.

in your specific case i could be completely 100% wrong, but whatev
