For Vista Users (XP does not have this problem):
I've seen many SS players who have the same problem as me. Sometimes, when I wanted to get characters like ?,|,},", I ended up getting characters like É, >, ^^,``. I also had trouble when trying to PM people with /. To fix this problem, I always rebooted my computer so that my keys would go back to normal.
After fooling around and pressing random key combinations, I finally discovered that the cause of the problem was whenever I used a repel (shift+ctrl). So I tried pressing shift+ctrl again and this disabled the french characters and returned my keyboard back to normal. I've been using this method for about a year and a half, but now I found a way to turn the setting off permanently.
Here's what you need to do:
Under control panel (classic view) -> regional and language options -> keyboards and languages -> change keyboards -> advanced key settings -> select "between input languages" and click "change key sequence" -> change the "input language" and "keyboard layout" to "Not assigned"
Now, I don't have this problem anymore and don't have to worry whenever I repel. Just thought I'd share this with you guys.
