Windows XP Internet Connection

My dad's PC's network card broke, so when I connected the ethernet cable, it would say "Cable unplugged" or something like that.

So I bought a new card, installed it. Plugged the cable in there, and it says in my network connections:

Local Area Network 2: Connected ; Firewalled...and so on

But I still can't connect to the internet...why?
