How do I figure out what RAM is compatible with my motherboard?

Also, can I have different memory sizes mixed together on it? I have two 1k ones, but what if I wanted to get 2 more chips that are 512 each?

Should be a sticker or stamp somewhere on motherboard. um size doesnt matter, just dont mix ddr2 with ddr3 or regular ram. and dont put ddr3 ram in if the mobo cant use it, same with ddr2 :P have to look the mobo up.

there is a free program that gives alot of info if you dont feel like opening the case . let me see if i can find a link.

I used it a long long time ago. i think for my window me so yeah. worked good . was a long time ago tho. but looks like they've updated it so cool.

After you know motherboard try a google search for
ram compatibility with dell motherboard
..............................^ instead of dell put your mobo brand there. Or can put the ram brand as well. or try both
should be able to find a chart.

In addition, most motherboards have 4 different memory slots. For example 2 red, 2 black.. You should always fill the 2 same coloured memory slots with same memories.

If there's already 2 1GB memories on the red slots, you can still add 2x 512kB memories to the black slots and you should have a fine 3GB of memory then.

(Don't forget different pin amounts, the mobo's supported MHz max etc.)

www.crucial.com has a scanner that will tell you what your comp can take. if its not that website google crucial ram scan or something similar.
