  • iPod help!

So I just got an iPod from my friend for free (score!) but I can't add songs to it. He used a Mac for his iPod and I'm using Windows, so it seems like the only thing I can do is restore the iPod to it's factory settings to allow it to work with Windows. I don't want to do this because there are several files in the iPod that I don't want to lose (because when you restore it to factory settings, it deletes everything in the iPod). Is there a way around this where I can still add my music stuff without going through the hassle of wiping away all these files?

iTunes on windows in combination with your ipod doesn't work?
What error message do you get? What do you see / why doesn't it work?

When I plug in the iPod it tells me that I cannot use Macintosh formatted iPods on my computer. So I have to restore it back to factory settings so that it can format in Windows. But in doing so, I delete everything on the iPod.

They suggest several programs you can use to get the songs off.

Found using this google search :P

I didn't want to take songs off, just add songs. But it seems like I can't do that anyways. I'll have to take the songs off, reformat the iPod, then add those songs back. It's quite annoying, but I guess I have to do what I have to do. Thanks though.

Can't you ask your friend which gave you the iPod for those files? Then you can format and it won't matter because you now have the files.

you have to reformat if you want to use your computer. You could either get all those files from your friend and put them on yourself, or you could give your friend any new files and continue using his mac for syncing. There's no way around it, but its only a one time hassle.

You'll still get the error, if you save the files and format the IPOD, and transfer those files into the IPOD again.. Is that what you're trying to do? Because, if you try to format and put the files back in you're really not accomplishing anything?
