  • Continuum taking forever to load

Ever since I d/led Cont onto my Vista (yeah i know) computer, I've had this problem. The main program will load quickly enough, but when I press "Play" it takes anywhere between 2 and 3 minutes for the actual game to populate. Any reason why? (besides Vista sucking) Is there a way to fix this?

If I click on the window once after hitting "Play" the window says it's Not Responding, if I click a 2nd time, the window turns that translucent white. But the game will still load after a couple of minutes.

How can I fix this? I'll be switching to Windows 7 once that junx comes out, too. But I'm hoping for a fix on the Vista machine.

    Thanks

Probably because your computer has little to no processing power and or memory, especially not enough to run Vista especially when I am sure XP is more than enough operating system for you or else you would be able to figure this out yourself.

Nope, pretty much can't figure it out myself, that's kind of why I'm posting here.

Right.. which means you dont need any of the great things vista has to offer. Do i need to post a download link to windows XP?

It's probably Aero if you have that activated. It makes older programs troublesome with its flashy effects and window transparency. You could try turning off visual themes. Right click your Continuum icon and click Properties > Compatibility, to find it.

I'm using Vista and I have no problems, although I'm not using Vista Aero Theme, I'm just using the Vista theme.

Here, there is an easier way to see what the problem is here.

Start ---> Run --> Dxdiag --> copy and paste your system information on the page that loads. Then at least we can see if it is just your computer or something else.

Thanks, I've done that a long time ago with minimal results though.

kthx, what do you suggest looking at specifically? I was able to pull a .txt, but there's a ton of info on there that's sure to be useless.

This isn't a Vista-related issue, it's a Continuum one that has to do with the way it loads itself (The SubSpace, PSpace, Discretion clients can connect to zones without an issue). This problem has existed since Windows 98SE for some users, has persisted on Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Most Windows XP users won't have this issue, while on Vista it's much more noticeable. Aero, compatibility mode, firewalls, Windows DEP, UAC, directX, etc, could all be contributing factors to its slowness, but alas even if disabled you should notice very little to no improvement whatsoever. Several people have complained about it before, but there's no solution.
