  • Can't stay connected

So I missed being benched in TWL again this week because my ISP sucks balls. For the past week I haven't been able to stay connected to my wireless signal for more than a minute or two. There have been a few exceptions when the connection lasts an hour or two, then goes right back to kicking me off. This is NOT just for SS, but everything. I even keep the SS zone list open sometimes to time the disconnects. I will literally disconnect every 8-15 seconds, connect again, and disconnect again. This has been happening nearly non-stop. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it. Restarting router/modem, unplugging it overnight, using a different laptop, etc. No matter what the disconnects continue and its annoying as fuck. AT&T wants $140 to come out and check the line, so I'm trying to avoid that (off of principle) if possible. Any and all advice will be heeded and attempted, as I can't stand waiting 30 minutes just to check my email.

    Please and thank you

i think you were talking about this on staff chat earlier, but have you tried the obvious?

          hard-wire to the router itself

as a matter of fact, what kind of router do you have anyway? if it's an ISP provided one, you may benefit from purchasing your own third party router and using that.

edit: and if for some reason, the ISP provided router is required, you could still get a third party and bridge the two.

Yeah i tried talking about it on all the chats I could before being disconnected again. Dezmond gave me some new ideas, but none worked. PL mumbled some crap I didn't understand, and infrared called me a Pnus. So far no luck.

Also, yes I have tried hardwiring directly to it. Same result.

I am experiencing this identical problem. How long has this been happening to you btw? My disconnection times are a bit longer (up to 30 seconds), but only MY wireless connection will disappear but no other surrounding networks do. This has plagued me for about 2-3 weeks now. It never used to do this.

Done several full scans of the comp for anything shady, nothing found.

This used to happen to me in the past. Here's the steps I took to fix the problems, in the order I took them:

                1) Upgrade the router firmware
                2) Enable "burst-packet" options on connection settings for the PC
                3) Bought a PCI wireless network adapter (it plugs into the motherboard - it's not a USB device)

                Never had a problem since.

Obvious troubleshooting efforts begin by using another PC with the same network connection. In other words, even if you have to borrow anther PC for an hour or two, get it on the same internet configuration that you are using. This will quickly tell you if it’s something specific with your PC or if the issue is something with the network. Put the second PC in the exact same place including the same AC cord. Once you have done this and you have effectively cut the troubleshooting in half, tell us and we will give you more specific trouble-shooting things to do. (Generally speaking you want to approach trouble-shooting by trying to 'cut in half' the issue at each step.)
