Computer fails with SS

My comp screws up when I play SS sometimes. The FPS will randomly drop to like 8. It's pretty much impossible to play with 8 fps. Any ideas?

I am wondering about the ‘sometimes’ and ‘randomly’ in your post, not being consistent or repeatable makes troubleshooting a lot more difficult.
Low FPS is often an issue with the PC being overwhelmed with other processes or unusually high CPU usage. I would start by first trying to determine if this is the case (use Task Manager to watch CPU usage). Do other games or application show signs of slowing down the video performance or is it just SS? If it’s just SS I might try reinstalling DirectX crap, I’ve seen this cause this kind of problem.
