We should enable playing by TCP or set up an own VPN at the game server. Double peoples ping, extinguishing ploss completely :P

lol in short: UDP does fire and forget so things might get lost, TCP asks if packet was received and enables resend if not, but does cause higher travel times and bandwidth usage due to that. A VPN on the server would make ppl go TCP or similar to the server and it would send itself the UDP stuff from there, limiting loss to broken RAM or something ;-)
