CPU upgrade

I was thinking about one.

When there are comming many new games, that requires some extra power if you wanna go 1280*1024-32 or even higher up to 1600*(some number here 1280? nahh? nvm)

-ASUS A7N8X DELUXE GOLD
-AMD Athlon XP Model 2700+ (2,17 GHz) Boxed(or non(dont even know what boxed is lol))

This would cost me hmm 125 €uros for the motherboard and 160 €uros for the pro. in total = 285 €. Swedish$: about 2565 kr, Finnish$(NOTE OLD MONEY, we use €uros these days):1694,50 mk. IN US dollar: about 270$ ?

What do you think? Should i reconsider and choose other parts? I dont really wanna burn a hole in my pocket. (Dont wanna waste to much money)

But I think thats a good combo.. My 3d-card is GeForce4 ti 4200 126 mb, somthing. Not the best but still better then GeForce Gts Mx or whatever it is called..

So.. what is your opinion?

btw boxed is in a box... i think u get a heatsink and fan with it...

u can get OEM version which is just the processor and i dont think u get a heatsink and fan

This should probably be in Tech Support, I'll get it done.

Also, for future reference, a CPU being "boxed" (as opposed to "non-boxed" or "OEM") means that it comes with a heatsink and/or fan. OEM parts don't--you'd have to supply your own heatsink/fan combo. Also, OEM parts usually don't have the full warranty that boxed parts do. Unless you're feeling saucy and adventurous (or know what you're doing, in other words), you're on the right track looking for boxed processors.

I currently have a couple of machines out at the office that I've put A7N8X mobos in. As far as computing goes, they're pretty solid. Not a spectacular performer, but this isn't a combo I'd expect that out of. If you're on a budget, you're on the right track. Drop in as much memory as you can afford, and it'll be smooth like silk.

I sell this garbage for a living. Your best bet is to max out your memory, get a large HD and a Nice Video card. I like ATI cards, they seem to be really strong cards.

GeForce FX 5900 is the best one i have ever seen...

512 is ok i think...
im on 256 and on pentium 2.0 GHz

need upgrade of my RAM and my damn sound card cuz it lags on BF 1942 because of both of these issues

Sounds like a good combo to me. Just for future reference, DO NOT get the Athlon XP 3000+ as it is actually slower than 2800+ mysteriously enough. Although the 3000+ has a lot or L2 cache, it's processing speed is a surprising 300 Mhz slower :P.

ASUS makes great motherboards but I personally prefer MSI. Anyways, it sounds great and good luck with your new hardware!

invest in a better heatsink n Fan...stock cooling is crap.

and it's 1600x1400 good luck running any game in that without a 9800 or 5900

I have made major change in my upgrade.. for an example Now i will buy barton xp2500 and clock it.. save some cash you know... Then we are going to make some kind of switch so you can addjust the fan's voltage that is blowing on the processor. like 5 volt or 7 volt or 12 volt. Is it called wolt in english. hmm :S

mine: geforce 4 (64 mb, upgraded from an 8mb), 400 something ram, and a shitty 700 mhz mobo. but it runs cs, continuum, and warcraft 3, so I'm happy.
