I heard they took the internet down for repairs. It should be back in a few hours.
I kid. Do you dialup? The noises on your line could be degrading your connection. Are you having problems web browsing/emailling or just with Continuum? More info would be helpful. Describe the noises?

Do your normal virus scans/adaware scan ect...
Verizon, i'm not sure what the company is but i've been told there having problems.
I'm not sure if you're using CAT-5 cables (cables for your Network card) or a phone line to connect. But either could have broken pairs inside of it causing the signal to be distorted. If the trace shows nothing wrong and your ISP isn't going to do anything, replace the cables being used for your internet connection. Don't bother with it yet it's still a proability.
Do a trace in SS to the tw server (on the main Continuum window), look for any red bars going down the list. If you do find a few red bars that could mean a router going to the server is not working or a router on your ISP network isn't working properly. If this is the case your ISP should at least send someone out to check it.
If this is a problem for all applications not just SS then your ISP should do something about it. That is if nothing like a virus/adware or another peice of software is effecting it.Last edited by Kolar; 08-20-2003, 07:00 AM.

I just got help from my dad on this. (HES REALLY GOOD WITH THIS STUFF!)
This has to do with it and also packetloss.
Ok i read this and im on a wireless network up to my computer in my bedroom.
If you're using XP:
hit Start > Run
then type 'cmd'
this will bring up a DOS window.
type 'ipconfig' in the DOS window
You will get this:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 10:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : <---- you might get something here but dont worry about it
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : ###.###.###.###
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : ###.###.###.###
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ###.###.###.###
C:\>
You will want to do a ping to the "Default gateway"
do "Start > Run"
then type 'ping #.#.#.#'
ping watever ur Default gateway IP address is
That will show you if ur packets are getting to the router at ur house (or where ever)
then after that if its fine
ping one of the servers on ur continuum game list
I chose TW
do 'Start > Run'
type 'ping 66.36.230.41'
This will give you the ping for TW server
make the PING windows as small <---> this way as u can
were not looking for ping.
were sorta looking for packetloss
If its doing packetloss you might want to ping ur ISP (internet service provider)
to find this out do a cmd in the run window (start > Run "cmd")
then type tracert 66.36.230.41
this will trace the number of "intersections" to the server (which is in DC)
ur isp will most likely be the 2nd or 3rd line.
this is wat i got when i "traced it from my connection

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
youll want to ping the IP address in the [x.x.x.x] box at the end of the bold line.
if theres packetloss on your default gateway, and its truly 'dead' ull see it across all 3 screens
If its doing that and ur wireless card is set to transfer at the highest speed u may want to lower the transfer setting
At lower settings ur card asks the gateway if IT got the packets. It doesnt do this at higher speeds.
Kolar please make sure i said this right. my step dad was the one who gave m this info and i think u know wat ur doing too!
HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS!Last edited by rootbear75; 09-14-2003, 07:29 PM.Sysop - PSS CTF Fury

You can trace route from the GUI, you don't have to do it through the command Prompt. If it's cutting out every few mins or so, then the probably cause is either a broken network cable, his ISP is working on their network, or a something is being over looked at their main office.
What I would do is replace the CAT-5 cable, make sure no spyware/virus is using up your network resources and if that doesn't work call your ISP. If your connection has been off for this long then complain to them, (Just make sure it's not a problem with your computer).
Edit: The last part is a little off. TCP/IP is a reliable protocol which checks to see if the packet was recived, I don't see how a higher speed would disable it.Last edited by Kolar; 09-10-2003, 05:21 PM.

one quick point
your telling people to ping their ISP
but most isp's these days will firewall their servers
you will be able to hit the tracert, because it can see that, its different types of packets being sent
but if you try to ping them they will all come back request timed out
so that doesnt mean they have packet loss neccessarily, just that they could be firewalled
also
for browsing, up to a 5% packet loss is easily detectable as IE or browsers themselves can cause that
but for online gaming, less then 1% is considered acceptable and viable
anything more will definitely be noticableWomen will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.
