  • screen goes black after installing new graphcard drivers

Got a new game, Halo. It required by graphcard drivers to be updated so I did. I downloaded the windows 2000/xp pack from invidia (i have a geforce, nothing fancy).
I can still start the game and stuff but when I try to enter an arena my screen goes black (green light to red light).
    I've already tried reinstalling continuum.
Do i have to throw those new drivers off and go back to old ones?
No way I can play and Halo and cont?
    help

    nvidia drivers often confuse users.

my friend installed some of the 40.# detonator drivers for his geforce mx 420 64mb.

then he got stuck in 4 bit (yes 4 bit) colour and no games worked.
there wasnt anything on the readme or help that said that it is not compatible with his card either.

ati are more reliable but less powerful.

anyway im droning on, try reinstalling an older one. that may fix ur problem like my friend's

What version of directX are you running? Latest is DX 9.0b I think, you might try updating that.

There might also be some updates for your motherboard, not your bios, but AGP drivers for your board. Trouble is you'll need to know the model and make of your board =)

As for Nvidia being more powerful, show me a link that has the new geforces running faster than the new ATIs. ATI is pretty much dominating the market when it comes to GFX.

        well not here it isnt,

there are too many games hat have problems with ati cards.

        i'll just stick with nVidia.

thx, i reinstalled original drivers of my graphcard (after consistant nagging not to do it by XP), still no visual.

ill try updating some other stuff.

other solution would be to quit cont.

I had a similar problem after indtalling the new dirvers for my gfx card. When at the cont. menu I clicked "view" then "advanced options" then I checked off "Avoid page flipping" and "no framerate limit" and was able to play continuum again.

Don't know if it will help ya.. but maybe?

It's true what Weaver says, Nvidia hasn't came up with any cards lately that could compare with ATIs newest.

Don't know much about your problem though wp =/
                Hope you'll be back soon!

                  well i dont notice anything.
as i said, ati have loads of problems with games.

i havent found a game that my GeForce has problems with.

so in my opinion GeForce owns all.

I had that problem too... but i fixed it by goin to view/profiles/ set ur refresh rate to a lower one probably around 60 or so and try again

if it doesnt work then keep lowering the refresh rate

Jet.User hit the nail on the head. warportal, when you say, "green light to red light" I'm assuming you mean the little light on your monitor? If so, the game is trying to run at a resolution/refresh rate combination that your monitor cannot handle.

On a side note, I have a program called 'RefreshLock' that allows you to specify what refresh rate you would like your monitor to operate on at any given resolution. It overrides any and all settings that a specific program might try to set. It works beautifully for me, as I play lots of different games at different resolutions. If you'd like it, let me know.
