  • Challenge Boundries

The current threads on marshmellow marines got me thinking about an idea to eliminate lame squads challenging only squads that they could beat and refuseing to play better ones.
Bring in the following rules when challenging:

You can challenge anyone thats higher than you in the ladder.
You can only challenge squads 5 places below you.

Another idea would be to split the twd ladder into 2. Top 15 and the rest.
You can only challenge people in your division/league. At the end of every week the bottom 3 in the top 15 would be demoted and the top 3 from the rest would be premoted. Or it could just be updated like it is now.

Or just make it like a ladder where you challenge a person above you and you win you move to their position and they move down 1 space, but then you would not have squads accepting challenges so I would make it so that you move up 1 position if you win your match, oh and you would also have squads who would make a second squad and just slowly move up the ladder so I would make it so that you can only challenge people 5 spots above you.

      ...
So you can no longer challenge a squad that is in 20th place if you are in 1st place. Ok, fine. What is stopping you from asking the 20th place squad to challenge you (the 1st place squad)? It would happen, and all this rule would do is make it a bit more inconvenient.

How would you set it up to begin with? This might be an interesting idea but I'm sure there is some kind of problem with it that someone will point out.

It's too late for this season to work on it, TWL is most likely to start during mid Jan. However, we (staffs) will try to come up with something to prevent this from happening. But as for now, not many good ideas have been brought up.

I like P_L's idea of havign some sort of gadget which shows u the average rank of the teams a team plays vs. That way u can see. But it would be sorta stupid for some squads bc sometimes all u can get is a jd or a dd vs an ezier opponent.

Plus i think its simple for TWL selections. the TWL ops look @ there twd history. U can tell if they just played ez ppl like elenya did last twl to get in. Then u dont let them in.

what we need are a few more squadless, aliased vets joining newbie squads and cutting these bottom feeders down to size. Delectable, where are you!?!?

              LOL

I think it's healthy to have squads like Menasor around, they're not leet but they manage to pull together some solid players every once in awhile and make a great match and some nice upsets, and bottom feeders will normally play them.

Or maybe the TWD Ops could just look at the squads TWD history before and determine if that squad is TWL caliber. If not, invite one that is.

Alot of sports leagues (FIFA comes to mind) use qualifications. Also, in golf, when choosing players for the Ryder Cup, like 2 of your 16 players or whatever are captains picks.

                  How about this:

If TWD ended right now, these are the standings (everyone over 1000):

                  1. Melee 1463
                  2. Simulate 1454
                  3. Venom 1450
                  4. Dragon 1448
                  5. Heavy 1337

                  7. Sk8 1332
                  8. Rusher 1325
                  9. Incuria 1324

Rather than take the 16 above (Ancients qualifies because they have 50% of their former TWL roster from last season), take the top 32 teams and use the 2 pre-season games as qualifiers (change it to 3 games, actually).

                  QUALIFIERS:

                  Group A:

                  1. Melee 1463

                  30. -KAOS- 1078

                  Group D:

                  4. Dragon 1448
                  13. Pirates 1277
                  21. BoZ 1160
                  29. Whipe 1085

                  Group E:

                  Group G:

                  7. Sk8 1332
                  10. -FINAL- 1322

                  26. Ossify 1124

                  Group H:
                  8. Rusher 1325
                  9. Incuria 1324
                  17. Rapid 1219
                  25. Shadow 1130

In bold are potential winners. Of course, Ancients would take 16th place instead of Klassic, but I was too lazy to fix all the numbers. But you get the general idea: everyone, even those many consider unfit for TWL, get a chance to earn their way in, and worthy squads that are inactive or whatnot are given a good chance to get into TWL. Tops in TWD are given better chances at entry, and former TWL squads with 50% of their roster (or more) that are outside the top 16 would be given those spots (16,15,14 and downward. Ancients would take 16th and Klassic 17th). So Klassic would be in the final group, and would probably get knocked out by Rusher and Incuria.

This makes abusing newb squads for a higher ranking more or less negligible. Sure, the occasional newb might slip into TWL, but at least they will have earned it with some forced qualification matches.

I like Claushouses idea. The "everyone above 1000 gets in" Then you fight off in a tournament (with seeds of course) so that Number 1 faces off against the last place team (unless there is an odd number in which they would get a bye) Number 2 would face off against second to last and so on. So that #1 squad would face off against (in theory) #2 squad, which would give you a reason to work hard in regular season to acheive high ranks so that you have an easier time getting to the finals.

I tried to get a system going where it shows he average rating of opponent(not including anyone who has played under 10 games) to give an indicator on the rating of squads you play against. This just wasn't implemented until like three days ago. It is a bit too late to decide to handpick squads(which never works out). The idea of starting twl playoff squads alot higher than normal squads would also help out.

To me any mini-tournament to determine who in TWD goes on to TWL is just not feasible. It's already so hard to set up TWL.

So here are basically 3 options that I think are feasible:

                            1) Council / Board of trusted members of TW community - Probably only give recommendations or suggestions but not have full control over who gets to go from TWD to TWL. To weed out the couple of weaker squads that slip in?

                            2) Readjust rating system to get into TWL ... either revamp TWD ratings or create an equation specifically to translate a TWD rating to TWL qualifying rating ... would hafta include strength of schedule, but could include even more factors.

                            3) Challenge conditions - I think this would work Stab ... you can only challenge those teams that are above you. That simple. So if you are #1 ... you cannot formally challenge ppl ... you however CAN pm ppl to ask them to challenge your team. Even tho this doesn't PREVENT one squad from playing another ... it does take away the initative of higher squads to play only lower squads. Other challenge conditions can be placed too.

Even a combo of the 3 above might work the best ... i dunno.

Handpicking squads is a terrible idea. The best squads have no problems making it, and a subjective process is never a good way to go.

The system atm isn't perfect, but it gets the job done: the best squads have no problems finishing on top and make playoffs.

What you have are people like Violence and Pascone who feel they're entitled to a spot in TWL because they think they're 'vet' and because they see new people and new squads high up on the ladder while they've stagnated, inactive, at the bottom.

It is harder to get matches near the end of qualifying, and squads will vigorously defend their points, but these people need to just shut up and play. You can't just become active a week or two before TWL, be far behind on the ladder, and expect everyone to throw away their hard earned points because you think you're better.

There is a misconception that 'whoever is the best on paper should get in', which is stupid. If that were really the case, there would be no need for a ladder in the first place.
