We've raised the resolution limits in all TWBD arenas to 1920x1200 as a test. This should cover 99% of people that don't use multiple monitors, which will never be supported.
If anyone tries it, let us know what you think. We can also test this in DD and JD, and probably will. TWD resets soon, so if it sucks we can just change it back.
good job, i tried playing with full screen (1680x1050) and it was almost enjoyable, and gave me no advantage at all (in fact, for someone like me who has played this game windowed 1280x1024 or lower every year, this just gave me a disadvantage.. couldn't focus at all!).
oh well, some people might like it. i'll stick to windowed.
Just did two bd's in 1920x1080. I really love the non-streched pixels, the picture is much clearer. Goodbye 1360x1024 (and manually switching the monitor from 16:9 to 4:3).
As for the game play: same as usual, but I could see what was going on in lower base (I usually reside around cram position) a bit better.
Also nice that ?go base now accepts 1920x1080. All in all a good change.
Lol statistics....are you fuckin serious? You do realize that they are going to be off because A:Thats been the main limit for 90 % of arenas until more recently, so people have been using that one far longer than a higher one? B: Some people are so casual they dont even bother to know or care to increase their resolution limits now that they have increased? C: People who want to be prepared for competitive twd/twl play won't actually play higher resolutions than the ones still allowed in the respective divisions?
Honestly, the solution of 1600x1200 resolution limit should be implemented. The current top level competition in TWLD relies on teamstray to slowly pick off the more careless or impatient team. What kind of skill is that? This dying zone needs a new influx of strategy, and a higher resolution (but not over the top like 1920 x 1080 etc) would suffice in eliminating this dependancy on teamstraying people out by giving them more time to dodge radar shots, forcing people to actually learn new strategies of outplaying the other team. The whole zone will fill once more with a fresh new desire and necessity to evolve the playing style, if one is to maintain their top performance.
Huh? Higher res means people will just play at even farther distances? Uh, what ? You do realize that higher res doesn't make radar scope increase, right? If people were already radaring with the teamstray concept, that is already the limit at which you can logically aim at a player (unless res exceeds radar scope), and thus the battles cannot go any further than that. And no, 1600x1200 is still lower than radar view range, so the ONLY thing this higher resolution would do is force people to get creative with their strategies of killing the other team.
You don't have to take my word for it, just use your head. Or, try it out. One arena in TWD can be made to have that res limit for those who are willing to experiment with it. Afterwards, based on success with that, more competitive arenas can convert (or not). This is the only way to get things to move forward in this zone, and help prevent playoffs from just being a matter of who's more patient that particular weekend, hence the last 7 seasons having 5 of them in TWLD be upsets.
Boycotting TWDD/TWLD if this 'testing' of an enourmous res takes place. Sorry, I neither have room in my small apartment for an old, cheap crt or new/expensive lcd nor will to set up a desktop off my laptop. It's really pointless to practice twd if you know some random guy may outplay you simply by seeing more things. People with lower res will be much easier to be sniped now and almost impossible to long-range rush as they will be aware of the whole environment. Sure, it could be funnier to play like that, but i don't think our player database mainly consists of huge, avid gamers that have well-developed desktops and don't play modern games at all for the sake of 2d space reality.
If you don't want to implement an upraged resolution for TWL, what is the point of even testing it for TWD?
If you really HAVE TO up the res limit for tests, do it at least in one arena such as twdd4, so that people may actually make their choice if they are really forced to be outplayed by technology.
vt.
2:blood> i think vt is a terrible player to be honest
2:vt> what makes you think i am terrible
2:blood> irrefutable empirical evidence

This actually kinda makes sense. I mean, my res can go up to 1900x1200 or something, but why not do it like you guys did with one of the jd maps, and just do it for one arena?
It's kinda stupid to make such a big change without testing it first. Sure it's only TWD, but a lot of people, other than vt, have voiced their displeasure with this.
For now, I'd suggest doing it for only one arena, along with wbduel/elim. Then, see what everyone thinks, ask for input, and THEN judge.

You make it sound like playing modern games is impossible if you play Subspace.....I've played a ton of modern games and can still play Subspace if I choose to
boycotting before you even know whether this will hurt you at all? gosh. besides theyve said its a temporary thing. twd ladder is getting reset. right now i dont care, i have a 1900xsomething monitor but its not hooked up. playing my 1200x800 or whatever right now. i would say that upping the res for twd ought to be used a bit carefully for right now. if the twl res stays the same it could throw a few people off if they base their game on resolution alone. those people are stupid anyways, so fuck em.
i am more looking forward to the twdt res increase. i think it might be slightly more telling right now.

Um, this IS testing. Current TWD games are meaningless and don't count for anything because everything will be resetting soon. I wanted to do it in TWBD because it is the league least effected by a larger resolution limit. I completely understand the concern with DD and possibly JD.
It would be nice to get some real, valid monitor resolution statistics for players that currently play in competitive leagues. I believe the Google Analytics stats are fairly recent, but it doesn't mean they're comparable to what people would use in-game.
But yeah, TWDT is using no res limit in all leagues. This'll be a good opportunity to test it out.
I can see this as a positive a change for jd and bd. Resolution dont really affect in these divisions. So whatever makes ppl comfortable here is a change to a better space.
Well in dd its a different thing imo. Im not really a wb expert but after i changed from a desktop to a laptop dd became uncomfortable to play basically when u kill some1 u die to a random stray out of your screen. Pro wbs could prolly adjust to this yet they give few miles ahead for bigger res playas. Well i let the wbs decide since this really not my speciality.
