Quarterfinals recap
What an amazing weekend we had, loads of surprises, close games, beatings and some individuals raising above all. Lets take a look how it went:
PLAY-INS
As a great warmup for quarterfinal weekend, Power and Legendary first met in each league once to decide, which of the teams gets to progress. Legendary was considered pre-game favorite in wb, having considerably better main season, ranked 3rd overall, while power was considered favorite in jav and with similar story, being ranked 3rd. In base, both teams have had their struggles, but power was still considered a slight favorite.
Wb game was pretty close. Like I predicted already previously, Power has a tendancy to be very mediocre in main season, but get their wb lines working great by the time playoffs arrive. Happened in last 2 seasons and it seems to be case this time again. Power also lined up with okyo,zid, beam, genx, bacon, something they have not used entire season, due to showup issues. Legendary had of course bombed in with absurd, autopilot, booker and hosack, but despite bombeds best efforts, power pulled ahead midgame and after eliminating hosack, there was no turning back to them, beam pulling a masterclass with 15-8.
In jav Power had pretty good season, rated 3rd, while legendary had clearly struggled with only 2 wins, one coming from 40.5vp terrorist and other against already eliminated prime in last round. So power was definitely a favorite. But against all odds, a silent hero all season, Jabra, rose to occasion, dominating the game, in what can be only described as one of the best 8vp player performances my eyes have witnessed. Low vp booker also put up really solid game with 9-10, also temu had best game of his season so far. And just like that, zidane and co were out.
Base game saw 2 teams with pretty mediocre season (with 4 wins each) having a really tight game. To counter powers all-star spider lineup (bombed, absurd, skatarius, autopilot and hosack as low vp under), zidane made a bold move in switching genx from terrier to spider to get a bit more firepower, while dare had to face x-demo in low vp terrier battle. Legendary of course had to also use their low vp sharks in zapata/captain lonestar, while zidane/beam did sharking for power. It was really equal game, both terriers did okey, but in deciding moments of game it felt like more experienced shark duo of power made moves legendary couldnt counter and those late moves and holding cram well with good shark pushes gave power the win.
QUARTERFINALS
With legendary out, tiny decided to fight against Thunder in wb, while warmed up power faced terrorist.
Just as i mentioned already last week, Pure Luck wb form has dropped though considerably in wb and the quarters against Thunder were very one-sided events, both ending with almost -20 with Thunder also appreciating Best make his first appearance of season. Having best/rainbow/ease in of course means ekko and harder also had to have good games, which they both did in both games. For pure luck though, the performance was really poor, first game vys going 5-10 and low stars struggling and second game tiny going 1-10. So PL lost 6 games in a row and is out of wb.
In second game Power took their time against terrorist, losing first game with 7, having genx do a horror 1-10. But they soon regained confidence and games 2 and 3 were very onesided events with power beating Terrorist 20+ points each. Have to mention though, that despite having up and down season, terrorist really played better with low star christian10 and clark kentaro present, who both missed the games. And who knows what may have happened if PL actually chose Terrorist as opponent?
In jav Terrorist had to make a pick and dreamwin picked legendary as opponent perhaps hoping their play-in game to be a fluke. In first game temujin got his first 10* performances of season and produced a masterclass with 16-8. Terrorist low stars were struggling and Legendary team stayed alive well and teamed well. In second game, terrorist managed to take out both bombed and temujin and got a deserved win, so all was decided in 3rd game. And who do you call, when you desperately need a hero? Well in case of legendary, it must be Jabra. Playing as regular 8 star in first 2 games, Jabra suddenly found his inner 10* again, putting up great 15-9 backed with temujin 16-9. Booker also did really nice staying alive with last life, causing many unnecessary deaths for Terrorist, while playing escape artist. So we have Legendary, team with 2 main season wins in jav semifinals now.
In second game Ambush and Thunder met. Ambush was clearly missing Kim, who uplifted their performance in main season after being drafted to team, so they tried both Kangal/Azuline in lineup, which didnt work well. Ibex though played really well as 6*.
But in reality Thunder had upper hand in both games with Best/Ease leading the way and y0gi showing how low stars should play. Ambush played okey, but Thunder was just a bit better in everything and advanced to semis.
In base Ambush faced Dice, while Power met Thunder. Ambush dominated both games, even trying different lineups. Second game was definitely closer, as Cape switched for terrier for Dice, while zizzo switching to spider. But in the end, Ambush had control over both games and moves to semis.
Ekko master terrier and jamal doing his things in shark gave Thunder upper hand, while rainbow seekers amazing season in spider continued. Power tried his best, even switched back to genx terring in second game, but Thunder just proved to be better. So both pairings had clearly 1 better team.
So what to look for in semis?
Thunder is only team that still fights in all 3 leagues, what an achievement considering they were so close to elimination.
Ambush is in for wb and base
Pure Luck has to play jav and base
Dice is still in game for wb and jav
Power still in fight for wb
Legendary still in for jav
Terrorist still in for base
So 7 teams still in fight, which i am pretty sure is good for zone, keeping it alive for longer. As of now, we dont know the pairings. Ambush gets to pick in wb, looking at how well power and thunder played in quarters, i am guessing Ambush may pick Dice, they also managed to beat them in main season.
In jav Dice gets to pick. My guess is that it will be most likely Legendary, despite their heroic efforts, they still seem like an underdog compared to Thunder/Pure Luck, who have played really well all season in jav.
And last but not least, Pure Luck gets to pick opponent in base. They are undefeated entire season, Ambush and Thunder looked pretty convincing. Of course PL beat both in main season, but in those games Ambush played with 1.5 less vps and Thunder missed their strongest spider in Rainbow, so maybe Tiny will pick Terrorist after all. Time will tell.
We definitely in for some awesome games next weekend, be sure not to miss it.
