Playoff Semi-Finals
Winner(West #1/East #4) vs Winner(West #2/East #3)
Winner(West #3/East #2) vs Winner(West #4/East #1)
Winner(West #1/East #4) vs Winner(West #2/East #3)
Winner(West #3/East #2) vs Winner(West #4/East #1)
2nd: i think the semi-finals are a mistake as listed here. in order to maximize the chance of the two best teams meeting in the finals rather than the semis, and to give the most variety of opponents, the schedule should be set up so that you dont play a team from your own conference unless there is an upset (a lower seeded team beats a higher seeded team). assuming balanced conferences and no upsets, the most probable outcome of the above playoff scheme would be to pit west #1 vs west #2 in one semifinal and east #1 vs east #2 in the other. this puts us back into the same situation where we are all playing teams that weve already played, AND the situation where if both of the best teams happen to have been stuck in one conference, we are likely to see what should have been the final game take place in the semis. imo the following is better:
semifinals:
(winner of west1 vs east4) against (winner of east2 vs west3)
(winner of east1 vs west4) against (winner of west2 vs east3)
