Starting out new sucks, I tried a new nick as TBD Devestator but no one picked me in base for a few weeks really so I just came on my regular name again.

I actually got on RB aliased, and no one knew then I couldn't contain myself and told Kings, Royst, of course Royst blurted out LOL EKKO 2 hours later on our squad chat when I said something humourous, and somehow people on spastic found out oo; So I just told everyone on my squad who I was *sigh* So hard to keep an alias, I think they IP checked me.. Anyways RB is somehow coming together again and doing quite well just need a little more practice :up:

Thats why .?go base sucks bc the staffers only cap well known ppl, and the captains only pick well known ppl. When .?go base was made it was made to teach and help ppl learn basing, now its used as a competative type thing where u always have to win. At any cost.

There's a million threads on this subject, so I'll keep it short. Cig, you're wrong. At best, ?go base is a mix of letting new people play and letting leaguers practice, but it was created for the purpose of running league type (and presumably league quality!) matches without the need of a host doing subs, scores, etc. It has always been clique-ish, and elitist, and never had the intended purpose you describe.

You have ur opinions and i have mine. I believe thats part of the reason it was made. About the mix, ya after abotu 11 pm est anyone can get picked bc theres about 18 ppl there. Same with early in the morning, but anywhere in between its just about a waste of time to even try to get picked.

This isn't an opinion issue cig. It is a very common misconception that go base was created as some sort of training ground for unknown players, but frankly that's utter hogwash. The arenas mythrandir, and base were created out of the basing community's desire to have something similar to elim for basing fans, NOT to teach people "how to base". Infact, the original idea (?go basing arena) tanked because it was more egalitarian and was too newbie friendly. In a respect, base has always been like elim, in that it is not, nor has it ever been, a newbie friendly arena (IE, the elim usage minimum). However, the base arena takes it one step further in it's selectivity, since inexperienced players (or an inexperienced or selfish captain) can destroy an entire team's effort.

It is a beautful dream to think of ?go base as both a great place to practice, and a great place to gain recognition. Unfortutanetly, it's always been just that, a dream. The two ideas are mutually exclusive, and when push comes to shove, base has always been in favor of letting the veterans practice.

Cig, I think you like to always have the opposite opinion and play devil's advocate. Or you like to argue with everything. And you have to respond to everything.

I don't ever remember a time when base or #myth was intended to teach or help people. I do remember a lot of newbies complaining that they could never play, and some people saying that newbies should be picked once in a while as a 7th-8th pick. But that's about it...it's no training ground.

Personally, I don't really think of base as practice either. ?go base IS the game, it isn't practice for the game. I log on to TW to ?go base or to TWBD if there's enough. If go base sucks (and it does when the caps or players suck) there's not a whole lot else for a reject baser to do.

Wadi:elim and .?go base arent even on the same playing field. In Elim even newbies can play every game. In base they cant. A newbie can learn by playign elim even if he goes 3-10 for hsi 1st 3 weeks. in base u cant. Yes they do have a usage limit, but its only like 32 hrs? 36? And newbies usualy dont know elim is around till they got more then that.

Maybe they should make a .?go base for ppl with over 1000 usage, and another one for ppl with less. That way ppl can get recognized too.

First, I was only talking about the elitism, not whether they can learn to play or not. lets stick to the subject matter here. Second, this isn't a discussion, it's a history lesson. I told you last time, there just isn't anything to discuss.

some people don't like to stick to the first name they ever used and never ever change it. it doesn't mean it's because you suck or you think people hate you (atleast not for most people), it's usually just based on your own preference.

That doesn't work. It's too easy to discover aliases like that. Maybe we play this game too much but it's pretty easy to tell people by their playing style and way of typing.
