a note on leading a squad

was talking to the leader of quicksand yesterday and he was all like "we don't want to play you guys, cuz if people see we lost to grapevine, they won't join us"

you are making a squad from scratch, not using huge resources of players. your squad will get better by playing against good opponents, not by beating the same ones.

twl starts when? january? february? you have insane amounts of time to play, and games now really won't effect qualification.

use now to get better, it is the only way you will get decent. the starting line from syndicate isn't going to say "oh hey, look at quicksand, they are undefeated against -WaRbIrDs-, let's join them!

first of all, you need to rely on your squad to get better and not worry about recruiting skill in.

second, anybody who is any good wants to play against good squads, not shitty ones.

what is the logic of dodging squads in september again?

ps. this is exactly how melee did as well as we did in season 6. a bunch of first timers overachieving. and check what happened with grapevine last season? how many of our players were playing their first serious season?
Philos> I both hate you and like you more than anyone in this game randedl
Philos> there is something about you
Philos> You're like the wife i'd love to fuck, but beat every night after work

PhaTz> we should all wear t-shirts that says "I WAS THERE WHEN RANDEDL LOST TWLD" and on the back, "TWICE"

i don't completely understand what you were saying. . . but you would be surprised as to how many people on grapevine played either their first twld game, or first twld playoff game this past season.

I dont know how many there were who played there 1st this season i imagine quite a few, that doesnt mean they are new tho. I just looked at the TWL finals (round 1 the one u won) and 5 out of 5 starters played a TWL game b4 this season. Mega, MK, Tys, weaver, u. Ur sub "deck" mite be the only one who didnt play TWL b4 this season (im not sure if he did or didnt). I know im just goin off of 1 game, but i dont feel like goin through ur whole roster

                    ...

All squad want easy points, if you say you don't, you're lying.
Then I guess you are calling me a liar. I did not realize I was the only person on the planet who challenges himself to get ahead rather than stepping on the heads of those beneath him. There are some honorable people left in the world. Maybe you don't see that. I'm not going to assume anything about you, so I'll leave it at that. Regardless, a lot of you guys missed the point. Randedl knows 100% what I'm talking about though. Thanks for clarifying it even better for me Rand

You won't get better if you don't raise your standards. It doesn't matter what rec you have. When I got into my first league squad, I sucked balls. My elim rank was in the hundreds. Sure I might have started out around 50 when I was first ranked, but I didn't stop playing elim just because my rating might go down and I might not get recruited. People don't care so much about your stupid TWD rank as they do about the kind of people you are. I personally don't squad with cowards.

Im sure ur squad has said "ok lets dd these guys, they are ez points" even if it was just bc u guys are board. Im sure u dont go and DD top squads when u dont got 5 capabale pilots (or 4). Its not being "lame" its being SMART. Now i hate when squads do it all the time like some do (distinct), but once in awhile isnt lame, and i agree that EVERY squad would take EZ points if they can. Im sure if i looked through Rusher's TWD history i'd find some "newbie" squads in there.

hmm, we dd good squads all the time when we dont have 5 capable pilots on for that particular league.

if you are fortunate enough to have a squad that doesnt suck ass, then you know you are going to qualify for twl anyway, at which point the twd standings become meaningless.

I did not read this whole thread so I'm sorry if I'm saying what everybody else already said. I'm not saying this topic has not been discussed yet in another thread either.

This TWD system we're using at the moment sucks; 'cheating' is too easy. "Easy" squads get into TWL by winning games against "easier" squads and not accepting challenges from "harder" squads.

Everybody knows something should be done to the system. At the moment who ever wants to get in to TWL, gets in.

i'm not getting into a petty fight over every player on melee last season.

there is a difference between playing twl seriously, and what most people do in their first season, including me.

i'm too lazy to look at the history, but you guys obviously missed the disclaimer about playoff games.

either way this has nothing to do with grapevine, i was just using my squads as an example.
