  • I'd say put it in ?go base for a week or so. If the period is too short, people won't have time to adapt. And of course if the change is made, it will take months to develop any real strategies for it.

      • O_o;

Why do we keep having this debate? Why would you force squads to only play 4 spiders? If having a special ship improves gameplay I think squad captains should be able to decide if they want a special ship or not.

Let's leave it Rejected Basers vs. -Final-

not Fire phoenix vs. NOCKM, a race for Teks..

Although fp isn't on RB I was using an example, in many games with special ships, it's basically the team with the better special ship that wins... and I personally hate playing with or against special ships. They annoy me, and if they enforced a 4 spider limit I wouldn't really care about showing up for twlb matches. Give us the CHOICE to choose for ourselves.

        • just fyi we tried this out in ?go #basefr10 last night with no blocks as suggested. Really close and fun game--definately go with no blocks period. There are so many more flag fights and the game is generally more entertaining.

            • I agree with Fit (wtf) in that flag room fights should be more encouraged. I mean you can spend many minutes getting your terrier into that hellhole of a cram by monotonously repping and shooting away into the hole, while the defending team does the same thing but shooting outwards, while the flagroom fight could be ended in an abrupt moment by a simple burst or bomb. Then you have to get back to step 1 just to get to the flagroom fight all over again. So why bother with the first step, and just skip to the main course.

P.S.: O yes i see some of you really want the special ships into play more, if you free up more space, i believe that'll give them an advantage over spiders. So you have that balance to work with, and how much effectiveness on spiders you want to hinder.

              • I'd say if the map is changed, the 4 spid limit is not needed. I think the worst problem with special ships was breaking and holding the cram.

And btw, actually my original proposal was not to remove the blocks, but "move" them up. Oh well...

I'd like to play it too, but no people in base2.

                • We tested the disappearing blocks in base3. First match had a 8 and half minute cram and when it finally broke, it was a random spid bullet to a terr doing a crossover.

After the second game I did a little poll, here are the first impressions:

I'd like to disagree on the "more space, more effectiveness" part, since javs are totally useless in lower base. Javs benefit greatly from walls.

                    • Ultimatum: Change the map to no blocks on the outside of cram or enforce a 4 spider limit. Either would drastically improve the quality of gameplay.

Personally I like the lack of blocks.

How can people argue over stuff this when the objective isn't even defined? The objective is to do what? I can tell from many of the posts that people are approaching this issue with many different objectives in mind. Perhaps it would help if people agreed on what the purpose of change is before launching ideas into the ether. Is the objective to:

                          Make base games more 'interesting'?

                          Make base games more competitive?

Encourage/discourage the use of the cram?

Encourage/discourage the use of more diverse ship lineups?

                          Encourage/discourage more flag room battles?

                          Or?

                          Comment

                          • Eph, from what I've understood, the map part of the thread got a little offtopci. It's "make basing more fun". And maybe "interesting". And attacking the cram for 10 minutes isn't "fun" OR "interesting".

Crv, it wasn't me who gathered them and so far they're the only ones who have tested that map.

Yup, agreed on that. Then after some time, maybe have a poll of some kind.

                            • True, the thread started with a poll about forcing a particular ship strategy. But again, PL did not define the point or reason to be considering this issue.

Perhaps his goal is to create an environment that makes games shorter in time, this would make it less likely a Bot would die and lessen the amount of time that staffer have to sit hosting matches. <joke

I guess my perspective is different than some of the other folks here. Many people use a perspective were they look only at the 'things' (specific ship(s), specific map(s) ). I tend to look at the connection between the 'things'. And when you do that, you immediately gravitate to trying to understand the highest level connection, which is the objective.

                              • Eph, I you were to ask me (tho I would even answer if you weren't asking me, so that first part of sentence is not really needed, unless you wouldn't take in account my answer had you not asked me in the first place, in which case the first part of the sentence is in the right place) I'd say that the objective should be:

-creating a balanced map where advantages of different strategies would not be map-based (like it is today, cram vs line ie) but actually skill/ship/team based, a map which would lift teamplay and different uses of all basing ships.
