There have been at least a few threads a day cropping up about cheating (CE/lag/whatever), and in several of those threads we, the public, have been told that there's work being done behind the scenes to come up with methods for detecting said cheating.

I implore you, whoever's got the final say as to when this season of TWL is going to start, wait until you've got a working and tested cheat detection system in place. If you just start it up for the sake of having it started up, we're going to have a meaningless farce on our hands. You're not seeing all of this bitching about cheating for nothing. It most definitely is a rising problem. To let it undermine what we consider to be our "premier" league would be to waste the time of everyone involved in making TWL happen and everyone who legitimately participates. That adds up to a whole lot of people wasting a whole lot of time, and for what? So a small percentage of integrity lacking wankshafts can cheat their way toward hard-on inducing bragging rights?

I, for one, would be willing to wait for however long it will take to ensure we have a level playing field. There's only frustation to be found in losing to a cheater, and for those of us with some integrity, there's certainly no joy to be found in winning with a cheater. Eliminate the possibility of foul play and let's really see who's who and what's what.

Without cheat detection, I'm afraid we're going to be looking at controversy surrounding the champions that drags along until the start of the season after next, and who the fuck wants that?

I didnt know you could definitely tell right now when someone is using CE. Otherwise why do you need to have 3+ mods spectate on a cheater call before something happens. I see plenty of people tank dead on with or without boost lag and I know most of them are not a cheat. Or when someone approaches a rock and barely misses it they'll bounce briefly off of it and then continue. If you can tell the difference between either of those without needing some bot or a few peoples second opinion then yes TWL would be fine starting when the bots are ready. I just think its hard to tell the difference by looking, then again I dont have the privelege of seeing things like a mod can with lag and stats and such

Unfortunately Jason I don't think there will be an "effective" way of guaranteeing that cheaters will detected and caught. I don't have technical know-how about the possibilities of detection, but these kinds of things (esp if your're asking for some type of cheater-detection-bot) will talk a looooong time to develop if they ever do come about. Even by speccing and looking at greening and energy, it' hard for 1 host in TWL to watch everyone. And I don't think TWL has the manpower to have a mod watch every player in ever game. Just don't get your hopes up is all I'm saying.

I'm going to trust the TWL staff on this one, I have a feeling they have a couple of things being worked out that they can't really profess to the public. I'm really hoping we don't have to see a lot of bans based on cheating this season, because I'm hoping there won't be a lot of cheating in the first place

It's pretty sad to look back at the last couple of seasons and double take at some of the TWL winners, and some of the TWL playoff squads, and wonder whether or not they were totally legit. Let's just hope last season will be the last that people were really questioning the legitmacy of some of the players.

Spectators ? Hah they see a hit or someone lagging and they think its cheating. They dont have the powers of a mod to actually determine if someone's cheating. Sure they can all pm the mod with 'look at him', but by the time a mod can do something the match is already over. Good cheaters dont get caught, only sucky cheaters.

There are probably people cheating to get into TWL, so I wouldn't put it pass to cheat to win it. I'd have to agree, hold off TWL as long as it takes to get something that can detect it. Someone create a program that scans computers for all known memory editors, then in order to play in TWL, you have to agree to a waiver, allowing the program to search your computer for anything. Violation of certain privacy laws I suppose, but that's the reason for the waiver. I dunno, just a thought.
