TWL Starting When?

Hello,

I don't think some of you realize, that asking staff members to explain the smallest details, will only take more time away from them.

It's like a monkey running on treadmill to produce electricity, but some guy comes and gives it a toy for it to be distracted. The toy being some of you constantly asking "Whats going ON?!".

Let them to what they have to do, the more questions, the more time taken up by certain staff members to answer those questions, and get nothing in return, because we know thats what will happen.

Look at the bright side, we are given more time.

With more time, we can betterly prepare our squads for TWL, and then be far more competitive with more practice. Use this time, and you can benefit from it.

I don't care about what code needs to be put on what page and what line. what perhaps would be nice is to know whats the use of the code and why it needs to be there for example a list what needs to be done:

TWL website layout update > some guy will take around 2 weeks.
Bot configuration so each score gets uploaded automaticly to website > some guy will take around 3 weeks
general website updates > bla
bot having problem showing time on top right > guy working on it will take 2 weeks
bots having problem staying stable > this guy is going to first figure out what makes it crash then try to solve this problem will take 1 week since this guy is very dedicated..

etc..

a list like that would be a good thing for the public, I'm sure with something like this everyone would agree its reasonable and would not mind waiting the time needed.

Oh and Knockers, I dont know anything about coding so I wouldn't be usefull. I wouldnt like to help because I dont really like how things are run in staff, In here I've been giving suggestions how things could be run, thats the help im willing to give.

hey sumpson, i got an idea. how about you, start your own zone. start your own league where hundreds of people will be playing. and find people who you met online and sometimes barely talk to to code massive amount of bots and websites for you. when you get that started running, THEN come here and bitch about us.

edit: and just as a side note, i will prove you wrong once again. we didnt start rushing all the coding near the supposed starting date. Planning for coding bots and websites were made a few weeks after last season ended. I will repeat again, people do these things on their free time. Most of the coders have either school or work. And when we are talking about school, we are talking about university/college, not some 15yr old who goes to highschool. When exam period hits, no one is free to work on these things. Staffs/coders are all from different time zones, so sometimes the only way we can communicate is through forum or ?message. That makes things take even longer to get done. and then recently, 2 main bot coder left, and the guy who was working on the site got really busy irl. Getting those guys replaced is not as easy as you think. Not just twl, but the entire tw bot dev had to be re-organized. so next time, if you dont anything, dont bash people. Please just be glad there is a zone and there is a league for you to play in. If you dont like it, go dsb or something.

First of all, the people on staff have lives. Meaning if they get sick, have to take more hours at work or someones birthday hits a night they were planning to work on bots - the deadline will be delayed. So take your pick Sump, do you want them to tell you it will take a month, and delay it another month? Or just let them do their job, and wait it out.

In addition, having people constantly pissing them off is really great motivation - I'm sure the more people keep nagging at them, the harder they work. How the hell can you expect to sit there, and badger them, and tell me thats helping? If you don't know anything of use, don't expect to be given deadlines, and details.

twl could easily be manualy hosted, you have er's you have mods, or are those only good for hosting fishies? what about the twbd tournament? you used some random bot which was stable and showed the scores for each match. manually adding stats, ie players total stats and such could easily be coded to the twl site by just adding random numbers (what players get each week) and making them connect in a way. i honestly do not see any reason why the 8 month wait is worth since it will probably only take 2 hours each weekend to add manually stuff to the site depending if you're only one who do it or 10.

There's far more to it then simplying printing out some text.

Seems we had last season well enough with the bots not being able to do this. You can find people to manually input the info each week. The people who are developing the bots just dont have enough spare time. How long are you willing to wait for them to get it done?

trust me, you will get sick of it after 1 week.
also, not everyone can have access to the database. In fact, even i dont have the access anymore. Only few limited people have that power now, which i understand. Staff cant just handout database access of the entire zone to someone who 'wants' to help.

I think we should just scrap the whole database idea. I seems like it's not worth the effort. I think just being able to use Matchbot ... and then posting the results from the Matchbot game summary printout would be fine. Sort of what DSB league does. Database is a nice feature, but I really don't think it's worth all that effort. It seems to be pretty unstable anyways (lagwise and gameplaywise).

And not to be ungrateful, but I'm guessing none of the coders do this sort of thing as their profession (mostly teenagers and 20-some year olds who code for fun?).

I didnt mean to imply just find some random person to do it although thats how it came out. I meant that even on staff there are plenty of people who are trustworthy that would do it. Maybe you wouldnt trust an ER or below but I'm pretty sure your mods+ wouldnt backstab the zone.
