    lol, i find this really funny.

    first, let me declare, nothing against this idea at all. i think it would be fun too

    now, from other twl threads, countless of you said "fuk stats, just start twl. fuk the database".. and now, here, you love this idea, you want this idea to be used. which, will use even more database, more stats, more coding, and more site work.

        Instead of a system like this for drafting/recruiting, you might implement the same performance-tracking system to weight the point award for a match. For instance, you might use the standard deviation from the respective squad W:L for each player.

        Let's say pallies fields a line whose members have better twd match w:l ratios than the squad w:l ratio. For that match, their squad rating is effectively increased with respect to calculating the point awards. E.g., their rating is 1300, but due to the higher-than-squad w:l ratio of the individuals on that particular line, their rating is effectively 1380 when calculating the potential point gain/loss from the match.

        I think this would help increase the activity in twd as it would encourage squads to take matches even if their star line isn't on.

          neth, you were post 31 in this thread, so it's hardly overwhelming, more like 5 people said they thought this would be cool, and those 5 peopel haven't though this through.


          Newsflash, if we used this system, you could be traded to a team captained by someone you hate. You wouldn't be able to join a team you wanted to join, because they'd have no cap room for you, even if they wanted you. You could get on your dream squad and axed or put on waivers so that some squadhopper who won twl 7+ years ago can come and bench instead of you.
          The only TWO TIME TWLJ All-Star and TWLB All-Star who never played a game.

                  In fact its the same situation as it is right now: you can only join a squad if a captain wants you too, only now the captain has to pay for it. And to make sure one squad can't get all GOOD players this system could be good. All soccerteams in the world want Ronaldinho, but not everyone can afford it, sometimes you have to sell a few other players to buy 1 good player.

                    What if i make a shitload of aliases and join each squad with a diff alias (pretty much what lemar does hahaha) just to get my value down to 1000 each time?

                      There are plenty of options to limit such things. We could say that one ip can only have one name for instance. And if you want to change it you will have to !switchname so that your current value gets transfered to your new name

                        So whats to stop a player playing bad on purpose so they are more affordable? A good player isint going to care how much hes worth on paper compared to what squad he is on.

                        Another problem is feeding. It would be pretty easy to get 4 friends to accept a challenge and green you 40 nill if wanted. The only reason people dont do this at the moment is because nothing is really based on twd recs. The new emphasis on player recs is going to make people more eager to lame.

                        I am actually fond of this idea because its always interesting to see how your skill compares to other players in the league and I have always enjoyed twlm because of this. But I just cant see ways round many problems.

                          I dont see why people should feed people in TWD matches. Squad lose money that way, plus there are contracts so that people cant squadhop So I think that wouldnt be a problem.

                          I dont think this system will be really initiated, since there is so little time to get this all coded. It was just a funny idea

                          I do think if a 'thinkforce' would really sat behind the table to make this thing work, it would really be something cool. I think most issues regarding 'problems' with the system can be dealt with, as long as people are willing to think about solutions. Ofcourse there would be testperiods where you will find problems on the way, nothing started flawless anyways =)

                            cash league isn't a new idea...

                            it has even been implemented in a zone or two that I can't remember the names of at the moment. IMO this only works in extremely small setting, and even then has lots of major problems.

                            it would have all of the same problems as the draft league would. people want to play on squads with their friends and people that are like them. this is a social game, and teaming up with a bunch of people you are cool with to shoot a bunch of people you aren't cool with is a lot more fun than being stuck on a squad with a bunch of nerds that don't mix, and getting dicked around by a captain who can't possibly please people when it comes to things like playing time.

                              If you're thinking of doing it you need to:

                              1) not allow aliases, only names ppl know
                              2) accurately assess the worth of a player (probably by commitee)
                              3) make sure that each player makes as many games as they can (probably get them to commit to a certain minimum # of games to attend ... or else they cannot play next season ["suspend" or make them sitout the next cash league if they don't fullfill this part of their "contract"])
                              4) get good, competent, mature caps
                              5) make some nice stats page that will show who is the highest paid, waiver stuff like who is unsigned, etc

                              For wb and jav cash league this kind of setup sounds about right:
                              - 6 teams (finding even 6 competent and mature caps might be a stretch)
                              - either do only 5 games in the reg season ... where each team plays another team once, or do 10 games in a reg season where they play twice (you could do two games a week to shorten the length of the season).
                              - seed all 6 teams for playoffs (allowing all teams to make playoffs is good imho)
                              - post-season games are best of 3

                                oh and Friends can still pick their friends to play with and if you dont like a squad you can just quit after your contractperiod is over =)
