Let There Be No Preseason

There should be a 2 week preseason, or longer if needed.

People are starting to get retarded on these forums. How many "START TWL NOW, OMGOMGOMG" threads have we already seen? And now this stupid idea?

The preseason is to make sure that there are no fuckups during the games that matter as well as for squads to see how they do on a heightened level of competition. Trust me, there will be 60 people watching the big preseason matches, nobody will want to lose.

Worst case scenario: We start TWL with no preseason, and the first 3 weeks are all screwed up and need to be replayed.

Best case scenario: TWL starts 2 weeks earlier than it would?

Doesn't seem like a good risk to take to me.

Pre-season is a good idea. it's like starting a football [soccer for your guys] league without friendlies beforehand. You could treat TWDD like training ground and the Pre-season matches like friendlies. Pre-season is vital to ensure that the bots work, and come on guys, we've waited long enough for TWL, i really don't think it's much hard to wait a bit longer. Added to the fact that most of us have actually lost hope in TWL starting within this year. rofl

2 weeks is a lot of time. We play how many games in a reg season? 10 maybe? I'd rather be playing 12 reg season games than 2 preseason and 10 reg season. I just think they can be:

1) reduced to only 1 preseason game
2) totally eliminated
3) preseason games should be turned into reg season games

I've been repeating it time and time again. If you want to try out lineups, get some competition, then do it in TWD, don't waste precious TWL time on that. 2 weeks is a long time again. Btw Rand cool off. This is a suggestion.

You're completely missing the point. Afaik, preseason games are played mainly to test how bots work in a league environment (ie. lots of games played at once with lots of spectators). Everyone can get all the practice they want in twd, but it's not a suitable environment for bot testing. If everything works after 1 preseason week, then great. If not, additional weeks need to be scheduled to fix things. I've had enough games getting interrupted by bot crapping out (gd TWLB7 finals) to not even consider neglecting testing. I think the staff feels the same way.

Wind, i think we all know that pre-season is used for bot testing and that kind of stuff, we all know its not for the games bc to me pre-season is just like another TWBD game, not important. That said, i still think we need atleast 1-2 weeks of it, NO MORE!!!! We dont need a month of pre-season games to test bots, test the bots ahead of time then if we got problems in pre-season go from there. Remember, just bc "2 weeks isnt to long of a time" there will still be many games in those 2 weeks, you got 8 games in each league? Thats 24-48 games, if we cant test the bots in that many games then thats just sad.

Ardour: ppl are only rushing bc this off-season is taking forever. TW in general is super boring when leagues arent in the near future. I think thats the main reason ppl want them to come, i dont think pre-season games are much of an issue bc once pre-season is announced ppl will be happy bc TWL is coming. All i want is that we dont drag TWL until the begining of summer, which it looks like we will have another Summer league anyway...

Well i think most of us agree that atleast 1 week of pre-season is needed. IF everything runs good and no problems then why have more then 1 week of preseason? Of course if we do have problems then i think everyone would want another week to sort it out. No one wants bot problems in the real deal.

Even if 1 week of preseason goes well, I think you need a second just to prove it wasn't a fluke.

Also, I think that if you plan for 2 weeks, you are giving everybody involved alot of warning. Rather than going by a wait and see system. We probably wouldn't find out until tuesday or wednesday after the initial weekend if everything went fine, not alot of warning.

After the last TWL, I would like to see everything possible being done to avoid bot fuckups.

An extra week of preseason or a bunch of games delayed until week 11? Not much difference in timing.

A few seasons ago I used to be on pirates, the time Colonel was, and I nearly played then but didn't want to play with my insane 300ms lag that used to piss many people off. Near the end of that season, broadband arrived at my town. I joined warpath and chilled.

Then, the season after, I had to leave for my first year at university. So couldnt play for Pallies.

In my second year(this year) I got broadband in my flat and so theres nothing stoping me from playing now! I cant wait to twl!
