Recently there has been some discussion going on about a possible Trench Wars Leagues Hall of Fame, as brought up by Genes. A bunch of ideas were thrown out and a bunch of names were mentioned, and I was mentioned by many people as something who could head this thing. I'm honoured that so many of you think that I would be a good person to run this. I have been contemplating such a thing for years, but never bothered to make one up myself, but since we have the momentum why not? The following are my ideas about how this would be run.
I already have in mind who I want on the committee and they know who they are as well. Hopefully this can be sorted out soon. After you read this will you realize that nominations, although for every season will really only start at Season 3.
If anyone has any suggestions about how to improve this, please state them now before things are finalized. Because of the nature of the Hall of Fame, I would rather the rules to remain static once it gets going.
Trench Wars League Hall of Fame
-------------------------------
Mission:
The Hall of Fame is decidated to the players and leaders who helped create and shape the league that we all love so much. Realizing that there have been many great players and great leaders of the league in the past, the goal of the Hall of Fame is to pick not only the best players, but the most important people in our league who have helped shape and define the league to what it is today. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to highlight the achievements of influential individuals to both honour them and to promote their contributions to the league as a standard for future players to uphold. Three main classes of people will be honoured: the player who demonstrated superior skill and sportsmanship, the leader who helped run a squad that made the league more fun and competitive to play in, and the individual who decided themself to public service for the sake of the league.
Description:
The Hall of Fame shall reside in a special section of the Trench Wars Leagues ( http://www.twleagues.org ) website. A maximum of three players per season can be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Although no specific quota is required, it is suggested that every season at least one person who has contributed to the league from a public service standpoint be inducted into the Hall of Fame with the other two spots being filled by players and leaders of squads as necessary. The players will be listed alphabetically, and what season they were inducted into the Hall of Fame will be listed. There will also be a short summary of the player's achievements listed for each player not to exceed 300 words on a sub-page.
Committee:
The Hall of Fame will be elected by an executive committee of individuals of various backgrounds with long experience within the league itself. Each one of the subleagues of TWL should be represented, and if possible someone from the more public service branch should also be part of the executive committee to ensure that all views are given proper exposure. The committee will start with 5 players to be expanded to 7 players once the inaugral Hall of Fame has been inducted. Each inductee must achieve a majority vote of 'yes' within the committee in order to be inducted into the hall of fame.
The committee will be headed by the chairman of the committee who will act as the tie-breaking vote, but will not otherwise vote. The chairman will be responsible for making sure that nominees are nominated within a timely fashion, to make sure the webpage is updated within a timely fashion, and to make sure that the committee votes in a timely fashion. Meetings of the committee will be chaired by the chairman or if the chairman is unavaiable, a suitable substitute will be appointed in his or her place. The chairman will also ensure that the nominations list is complete and the votes are tabulated accurately and fairly.
Because of the nature of the game in that older players are likely permanently gone from the game, the members of the committee do not necessarily have to be part of the Hall of Fame. Instead the inaugral committee will be appointed by myself, and all future committee members will be approved by the committee as members depart. It is strongly encouraged that potential replacement menbers either be part of the Hall of Fame or have significant respectibility within the league.
With the exception of the inaugral committee, the chairman of the committee will be appointed by the committee within it's own ranks.
Members:
Anyone who has participated or been involved with the organization or running of the league may be nominated. There are three general classes of nominations, although individuals may belong to two or all three of the classes. All nominees must be people who are not only well respected within the league committee, but they must be someone who represents the best of Trench Wars League. As such, any individual who has previously been banned from the league for any individual transgressions are automatically exempt from being nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame. As well, any inductee who is found to be banned from the league for any reason may be removed from the Hall of Fame by the committee.
1) Player - This is someone who has participated in at least three TWL seasons in any of the subleagues in a significant manner. Ideally, this is someone who for at least three seasons has demonstrated superior skill within the league (in any combination of subleague), has demonstrated sportsmanship, and may have changed the game in some way due to their playing ability and originality.
2) Squad Leader - This is either a squad founder, or a major leader within a squad. This is someone who through their actions has added to the richness and competitiveness of the league through their efforts. Ideally this is a squad which is well respected within the league, and ideally this is a squad which has shown success either by TWL championships or by being a proven competitor within the league. This should ideally be someone who has been a leader for at least three seasons within the league.
3) Public Service - This is someone who has been involved in the organizational or day to day running of the league or associated things. This can range from improving on how the league is run, to extreme dedication in the day to day operation of the league to adding something original to the league which has made it a much better experience for all. Ideally this is a multi-seasonal affair, although massive singular contributions are also to be considered.
Nominations Process and Voting:
Only members of the Executive Committee may nominate individuals for the Hall of Fame. Each committee member may nominate three individuals per season. Ideally each nomination should be accompanied by a listing of why each person should be nominated, and ideally each committee member will nominate one person from the public service category if possible. This is compiled into a list by the committee chair, and then the committee will vote for their top three choices. Since only majority votes are accepted, if there are not three individuals who have majority votes, the list will be shortlisted by the chair until three people can be found.
