Conversely to all you nay-sayers: how can you call a 4-team-playoff a playoff at all? AvB CvD ... AvC BvD ... glad that's over. At least with 6 teams you can throw a couple extra games/another week in there.

And by the way, regular season never mattered. The shitty squads always end up with like 1 win and have no chance of making playoffs from the beginning.

I disagree Jeen, been thinking this over a while. As much as I like more squads, and more, well more. Not in LB, can't do it. Maybe LD since it has 10 squads (the clusterfuck comment kinda went against your own point since you're the one arguing for more squads in LB playoffs.. imo anyways) it could be done. I'd like playoffs to last longer too, but maybe some kind of new systems is needed?

Personally, I think enough changes have been made this season. Let's let it roll, and keep ideas in tow for the next twl - and lets make sure that next twl is very soon. If we want to keep TW alive, TWL is going to have to be more frequent, not really longer. Thats why i says keep it to 4 jeeny :wub:

my clusterfuck comment was solely directed towards the ld schedule. currently i don't think the twl ops know what they're doing in regards to organizing the schedule. ld already has two more weeks than lj/lb, adding another week on to that, especially when it comes to playoffs, might fuck things up even worse.

i'm a firm believer that lb has the competition to support 6 squads in the playoffs but ultimately if it doesn't happen i won't really care. just thought it might be a bit funner although i do agree with the whole 'tha fuck's the point of the regular season' argument.

So it seems that, for instance, ld is dedicated to top players hailing from 4 squads (more likely we will see quake, heavy, thunder, dice) who have played this ancient game for many years and won 2-3 titles already. Hence we also can neglect regular season because there is about 90% chance the listed 4 out of 10 total will play in the next stage, which also means as little as 3 weeks of intersting games.
This is obviously a major mistake that is for killing the league as well as zone in the similar way. The same thing happened when chaos/league zone svs staff decided to implement pyramid, thinking this would balance and automatically form the tiers for playoffs, but we experience 3-4 teams dropping out of it every season and same finalists for the 3rd time (Assassins def. Sterling 3 times). If you minimize the number of squads and players willing to play and advance, you will kill the interest. You can either make competitive PRO (TWL) with AML as a place for low-tier squads, who, I'm sure, would find a lot of motivation to win, or you go for semi-competitive twl where you add about 12 teams and make 6-8 team playoffs with proportionally longer season. Not like it matters now, but if someone is really going for 4-team in all the leagues, all I can say is: you lack imagination.

great idea, pyramid would weed out even the decent squads who made it to twl. The seperation into leagues would be better. We should made it like english premiership, where if you don't do well enough you drop down to a lower division. Pretty boring seeing the same players e-hoisting twl cups.

changing the rules wont fix that.

you can increase the league to as many teams as you want, but that wont matter in the least to the top select squads that have a chance to win.

the same 4 squads will compete for the win.

then you have the following 4 or so squads that will compete for 5th-8th.

then if you want to, you can add more squads that will compete for 9th-#th.

with a few upsets the 5th-6th places could take out the 4th.

the 9th-10th range squads could compete for the 7th or 8th positions.


as far as it really goes though, there probably wont be any big upsets.

we no longer have the playerbase to support 12+ competitive squads with a 35 man roster. (thats 420 different people btw)

some say the solution lies in dropping the twl roster caps. i have mixed feelings on that, but it probably shouldnt happen. the only way this makes sense at all is on a per league basis. it is a downright bad idea to make a roster cap in twd (training squads, inactivity, waiting periods among other reasons)
