TWLJ Preseason Week 1 : Featured Matches
Voth's Featured Match of the Week: Dice vs. Pirates
This match should prove to be a very interesting TWLJ match up, and will give a preview of what these two squads have to offer in TWLJ. For Pirates, their strength lies in the teamwork. Their javs have played together for a long time and have great chemistry. Steak666, Exquisite, Plob#f and Hercules will be their core, with their fifth jav being a wild card of any of 3-5 other mediocre javs on their roster. The problem I see with this team is that they are a very conservative team, and they rarely mount powerful attacks, more rely on fundamentals of javving to carry them, which works for them usually... but will it against strong attacking squads like Thunder for example? I'm not so sure. On the other side of the match, Dice will show up a very typical rag-tag dice jav lineup which consists of something like megaman89, Cape, Merce, Annul, and Stayon. A few years ago I'd say hell yeah, best lineup around. But now...? Not so much. They are relying on a lot of rusty, inactive, and inconsistent vets to carry them in LJ, and I see them falling short in LJ like they have each of the past few seasons. That being said, Dice's rusty inactives are around same level as Pirates' line, and Pirates needs a certain showing to be strong, while Dice has some more depth with players like Mess, Spawni, Bill C, Aimbot, Maketso, a2m, and Wax all TWL level javs.
Voth's Prediction: Dice over Pirates, 50-42.
Dice's depth will be too much for Pirates. If Pirates shows their top lineup it will be a good game, otherwise their few strong javs won't be able to handle Dice's lag and teaming.
TWLB Preseason Week 1 : Featured Matches
It was hard to choose the Featured Match for this week, because I see four great basing matchups this weekend. Yes, that's right, all of the matches this weekend will be very competitive and entertaining in my opinion. But alas, I must pick one, so without further adieu...
Voth's Featured Match of the Week: Disoblige vs. BasingCrew
And I'll tell you why! Both of these squads have a lot to prove to everyone, especially BasingCrew, who are widely known as rather inconsistent and unorganized. The question Disoblige has to answer for us is if they are a serious contender for the title this season. People are talking about Dice, Thunder, and Mainliner as the main contenders, but like many people have said, this season's skill distribution is greater than any of the recent seasons, so I do believe anything can happen. So anyway, for Disoblige, terring was a concern until they acquired Kawrae after Sage's fail, so now they don't have to put in that idiot Major Crisis. Stellar pick up for Diso. Anyway, sharks will be any of the following: mantra-slider, pjotter, ephemeral, burzum, rednaz, soilderz. So they have some solid sharking with decent depth. Spiders... they have too many capable spiders to list, but not many that are stand out, so I assume they would ideally like to have Bram, Sal, remu, and koan spidering with Da1 javing, or if they want to be really lame, BrokenFist warbirding! For BasingCrew... their shit never changes; no consistent terr, no consistent sharks, carried by their spiders. Trouper, Leitz, Rauta, Cyrus, and DSin are probably ideal for spidering, with (gasp) JeBu terring and NL>Trigger and fire phoenix sharking. This is assuming their inactive people who are much better (Hi Herik) don't come back.
Voth's Prediction: Disoblige over BasingCrew, 15:00 to 13:30
Disoblige has the advantage in terr and sharks for sure, and match up well with BC's spiders.. you do the math. Diso wins but not without a fight. Look for Diso to exploit BC's weak sharks with the special ships they have proven they can win with.
