  • Matchreport preseason TWLB: Pallies vs. whiterabbits

Seeing that TWL is starting next week and there might be some good games to watch/write about I felt like writing another matchreport. I'm a bit rusty, so I hope I'm not making a fool of myself here. Hope you enjoy reading this. Comments/opinions are more than welcome!

TO THE POINT! Here I am, with a front row ticket to the clash of titans from the Eastern Basing conference, Pallies vs. whiterabbits, and this is how it went...

    rosters:

    Pallies:
    terr: Divine Rides
    shark: RyanG, bloodzombie
spider: Sleepy Weasel, ConcreteSchlyrd, HellzNo!, Mattey <ZH>
    jav: Pearl Jam

    whiterabbits:
    terr: arrogance
    shark: Shade's Child, Adman
spider: Ezo, BooHoo!, NaiLed, Turbonium (switched with Project [V-irus] after 20 minutes)
    jav: Project [V-irus]

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The game started in flagroom... I'm not very pro to this new way of starting a basegame but hey, one good thing about it is that the game explodes into a flagroombattle from the first second. Not in this game however. After a mere second arrogance died! Bummer for whiterabbits because the next 3 minutes Pallies took a firm stand with a mix of lining and cramming. The rabbits did still get in and even managed to kill Divine once but Pallies were stronger. Score after 5 minutes: 19-7k.

Pallies looked a size too big for whiterabbits. Sure there were flagroombattles, but whiterabbits couldn't get a grip on flag. arrogance made some flashy entrances but would sooner or later catch a bomb in the face from Pearl Jam. Pallies dominated, whiterabbits took the hits, knowing this game was far from over. Score after 10 minutes: 41-20k.

With 10 minutes on the clock whiterabbits looked to be slowly recovering ground in flagroom. With some good agressive spidering from Ezo the rabbits finally got into their game. Good control of flag gave them a chance to make up for their not so good start. It wasn't all wr however! Pallies still managed to get their share of flagpoints and held on to their small lead. Score after 15 minutes: 56-42k.

After the 15 minute bell Pallies seemed to pick up the pace again. The spectators were treated to some good flagroombattles. Both teams managed to kill the NME terr several times. The difference however was that after killing arrogance, Pallies defense would be solid and ready to rack up points. whiterabbits managed to kill Divine Rides just as much, but after that Pallies would be back in flagroom in no time. Explanation? RyanG and bloodzombie were simply better than Shade and Adman today? Pearl Jam who took out spiders hand over fist? whiterabbits spiders who for once didn't have the teamwork needed to hold the fort? Anyway Pallies looked to be having the game under control. They kept their lead for 20 minutes now and looked cool enough to keep it 'till the end. Score after 20 minutes: 75-55k.

Whiterabbits didn't break as easy as many people in spec thought. They kept trying, kept working, and after the switch of Project and Turbonium things started to go a bit better. A few silly deaths from both terrs made the flagroombattles chaotic and unpredictable. Pallies got kicked out quite a few times, encouraging whiterabbits that they could still take the game. This fresh spirit however was just as many times crushed when Pallies would simply stroll back in as if there was no defense. Score after 25 minutes: 87-75.

Phew! At this point most of the onlookers agreed that it was gonna be close. The last 5 minutes of the game were even more chaotic. Pearl Jam and Turbonium seemed to be taking turns in splattering the NME terr. At this point every second of flagposession counted. With 3 minutes on the clock whiterabbits managed to kick out Pallies, but they were still 10k behind. Pallies played it fair, and kept attacking 100% which resulted in a 5k lead for wr with 1 minute left. Still Pallies got in, desperate to win the game they thought they had. Right untill the last second the outcome was unsure. But when the bell said 'ting' only one winner came out. whiterabbits. MVP? Mattey <ZH>. Endscore? WHO CARES!! (i forgot). Difference? 500 points. Good game? HELL YEA!!!

sidenote: many of us thought that cramming would make basing boring and one sided. Think again. Todays game showed that any defense can be broken and any cram can be uncrammed. Sure cramming is a new style of defending that will leave its marks on the upcoming basing, but there's no way that it will have a negative effect on the action!

I had perfect 30 ms ping the entire game but at that 10 minute mark I got mysteriously disconnected from the server and it wouldn't let me back in for about 3 minutes while we had to fight 7v8 and lost the flagroom. Suspicious. I suspect whiterabbit trickery.

As an extension we took the lead before the 30 second mark and with the squad pushing to get up on flag and no portals for safety I took the risk but died instantly. Upon that ousting we were up 4-6k or so with 20 seconds on the clock. We rushed tube and were taken out by PJ immediately. I respawned at 10 seconds and never made it past main tube before the game expired.

Felt like we got mopped, I was suprised both with the small size of the difference when we got control around 8 minutes or so as well as the final score. Felt like pretty sloppy basing, atleast on our part, and I don't think either squad was in tip top shape, both lineup and experience-wise. But sloppiness made one of the most intense basing matches I've ever played.

GG Pallies. GG wp with the writeup. bd's all around.

I am also not fond of the autowarp.

Imo, the autowarp feature is cool. It automatically puts both teams in the flag room, thereby allowing each to have an equal oppertunity to reach flag first. Plus it allows for just a little more action right off in the flagroom instead of having a full on charge the whole game.

                  quick notes:

Addy and I have only sharked together once or twice before, so I have no doubt at all that bz (one of the best sharks in the game) and ryang played better than us. No question pallies out sharked us.

Aside from sleepy's mysterious lag and nailed's occasional lagouts, (NB: Bronch subbed in for nailed about 15-20 minutes in) I though the game was very low lag. This is a good sign for TWL, as we played with 700 people in TW during WW5.

Earwarps are fair and much more interesting than taking two bad warps before every game.

                  bd pallies. was fun.

a fitting end to an exciting pre-season for wr. a close match vs crips (47-50) which was predicted to be a blowout, and an upset win over the #1/#2 basing squad out there. Neither side of both games had their top lines - so I expect the next time we meet to produce even more fireworks.

I'm loving the ear warps. Anything else depends on luck. Ear warps give both teams a fully equal chance rather than who warps best, whos facing the right way, etc. Instant fr battles are awesome, although that didn't work out today. FU PJ.

I think Earwarps should be an option, let the teams decide before the match.
