Let’s call this the week of team Hot or Nots rather than individual Hot or Nots. You will soon understand what I mean…
Thunder vs Sage: 50-29
I was really looking forward to a good game this week but Sage let me down once again. For a second week in a row, Sage showed up with an incredibly weak lineup and got wrecked. Led by Ease (12-5), there wasn’t a single point in the game where Thunder’s victory was threatened. The poor performances are endless: Gazo (0-4), Reab (0-6), Ground Zero (4-9), and NL>Trigger (4-10). I am not exactly sure what happened to the strong Sage lineup that was dominating early in the season, but it seems to have disappeared at a very crucial time. With two games left in the season Sage has placed themselves in a win or go home situation. It would be a shame if these dreadful outcomes cost them their playoff position.
Respect vs Dice: 40-50
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to catch much of this game. However, Respect seems to have put up a good fight against a much stronger Dice lineup. Paradise (1-10) was probably most responsible for the defeat. No one in particular stands out among the Dice players; they all seem to have adequately kept up with the pace of the game. With this loss, Respect now holds the 6th and final playoff spot by a thread. With Sage very close behind, Respect must focus on winning its remaining two games if they wish to guarantee the playoff position they currently hold. Dice on the other hand faces a match next week against Thunder that could very well determine which of the two will hold the top seed heading into the playoffs.
Boss vs Rapid: 50-38
Contrasting Sage’s season, Boss started off very poorly and has progressively picked up their slack. It seems they have tried out different line combinations until discovering the few consistent players that carry the majority of the load each game. Led by Locket (12-6) and Explode (10-6), Boss continued the excellent play they started last week against Dice. Golden_Aim (4-10) seems to be making the case for having the worst season ever recorded in TWLJ history (32-61 K currently). Other notably poor performances include Baron Munchausen (3-8) and Little Slick (4-8). Although it may appear that Boss is currently in a solid position for a playoff berth relative to Sage and Respect, this proposition needs to be reconsidered. With games against Respect and Thunder still remaining on Boss’s schedule, it is vital they win at least one of the two. This may ultimately prove to be a little easier said than done.
Shinobi vs Impala: 50-24
I almost feel bad describing this game. There is very little to discuss, so expect this section to be incredibly short. Essentially the entire Impala line got raped by a more than overwhelming Shinobi line. In terms of Hot players and Not players in this game, its almost useless to list any. The majority of Impala members were expected to perform poorly as it was their first (maybe second) TWLJ games and the majority of Shinobi members were expected to perform adequately as they were playing against these very newbs. That alone should suffice in summarizing this game.
Fatal vs Mad: 29-50
This was another expected outcome. Led by Turban (16-9) and Vys (14-6), Mad ran through a Fatal squad that appears to have given up in this league. I still respect them however, for continuing to demonstrate a commitment to the league by showing at least five every week. The whole team played poorly so I don’t find it necessary to list any particular players. Mad is currently right on the tails of Thunder and Dice seeking to acquire one of those top two seeds and guarantee a spot in the semis. Assuming Thunder loses next week and Mad wins this is exactly what is going to happen. Regardless of how things unfold however, (whether Thunder wins and takes the first seed or looses and takes the third seed) it appears that Mad will be playing Thunder in the semis unless they choke and lose in the quarters. The playoff picture seems to be unfolding as expected with the three dominant squads holding positions in the semis. It will be an interesting year to say the least.
Im summary:
Hot of the Week: Not really appropriate to award it to anyone in particular
Honourable Mention: Turban, Vys, Shan, Ease, Locket, Dice
Not of the Week: Paradise
Dishonourable Mention: Sage, Impala, Fatal, Golden_Aim (for the 5th time I think)
Until next week, stay classy Trench Wars Leaguers!
