  • TWLD Season 15 Week 8 Hot or Not

Week 8 begins with TWL nearly being postponed due to the bots acting up, but the bots seem OK right now. The scores for games involving Asians and Penetrate, however...

    ???

Anyhow, since I played at the same time as the first game, and the scores are pretty screwed up on the actual site, I'll try my best to make these first two HoNs as accurate as possible. Interviews will be back next week, and I will also start recording the HoN again next week as well as during the playoffs.

    Thunder vs. Asians
    50 - 25
    MVP: chuckle!

The first game of the week features Thunder taking on Asians. Thunder could have rested easy for the rest of TWL, while for Asians this game is almost a must win. Thunder, however, decided not to go down the rest easy route and instead laid into Asians, beating them by 25 points. chuckle continues a hot run on Thunder, adding another 15 kills to his overall total, with hermit picking up 10 right behind him. As it stands right now, it's kinda hard to figure out who scored what for Asians, but I have it on good authority that qpr put up 7 kills. Thunder goes into Week 9 7-1 with a potential look at the TWL Finals coming up next week as they take on Fierce. Asians will need to win next week to have any sort of shot at playoffs, and they'll have to do it against hit.

    Penetrate vs. Tenure
    50 - 41
    MVP: Rasaq!

Perhaps a closer game than some anticipated with these two. Penetrate enters the week coming off a loss against Dice, while Tenure is coming off a loss against Sweet. Penetrate, however, takes the win and improves their playoff hopes at the same time with a 9 point victory. Leading the way for Penetrate this week is Rasaq, as he continues to play hot with 15 kills, while Sir Spider put up 10 right behind him. Major Crisis put up some good numbers at long range, dialing in 13 kills as the only player for Tenure to go + this week. For Tenure, they've just got another week of showing up to do. And for Pene, the win means good things for the playoffs for them, as they take on Dynasty next week in a game that could do a lot for them in terms of determining playoff positioning.

    hit vs. Dice
    28 - 50
    MVP: a2m!

MVP: a2m! is coming up a lot for Dice this season, as he once again leads the way for his team in a 50 - 28 win over hit. a2m put up another 14 kills while Weak laid down 10 as well and that was enough to keep hit out of this game for good. siaxis, at 9-10, was the closest thing to positive for hit in this game, as this loss knocks their record down to 3-5. For the time being, you might wanna semi-ignore what I say about playoffs in these and just go to the bottom where I'll analyze things a bit more in depth with all games finished. That said, hit also faces something of a must win next week, and, of course, they play Asians. Amazing how that all worked out, isn't it?

Sweet vs. Dynasty (Game of the Week)
    41 - 50
    MVP: Let!

In what has been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs this season for Sweet, this game has the potential to be one of the final nails in the coffin for them. Especially since, you know, they lost it to Dynasty, 50-41. In one of the best individual performances of the entire season, Let carried Dynasty to victory with an unprecedented 19 kills performance, while Keith put up 11 himself. As I've mentioned before in these writeups, 2 people combining and putting up huge numbers together can totally be the difference, and in this one, it most assuredly was. For Sweet, Jones put up 14 kills as the only player to go positive for them, and he also continues a pretty awesome season in terms of Kill-Death ratio. So what does this game mean for the playoffs? Well, it means quite a bit, really. More on that in the Standings breakdown below.

    Paladen vs. Fierce
    30 - 50
    MVP: scoop!

And, thankfully, Fierce didn't tank this game and turn the already clustered playoff scenario into a trainwreck, as they sweep past Paladen, winning by 20. With the loss, Paladen is basically eliminated from playoff contention in LD. Good season to them, though, regardless. scoop led the scoring for Fierce today with 14 while skepsis and Apok also put up some good numbers in a very strong season for them. Jessup's 12-10 for Paladen was a blip on the radar of hope, but it was nowhere near enough to make up for his teammates faltering behind him. Fierce remains undefeated as they head into a Week 9 clash with 2nd place Thunder, while Paladen has a chance to play upset next week against Sweet and ruin their playoff chances. Even so, Sweet is really the team on the outside looking in right now, as even a win from them isn't a guaranteed playoff spot, but I'm gonna leave all the really hard work on that up to the TWL mods. I can't do it all for them.

Hot of the Week: Let! (19-7)
    Honorable Mentions: chuckle (15-6), Rasaq (15-10), a2m (14-6), scoop (14-6)

A season defining game for Dynasty and for Let this week, as his 19-7 carried Dynasty over Sweet and back into the playoff chase. Now, for Sweet, it's do or die, and not even a win is enough to get them into the playoffs. Well done, Let. Perhaps the best performance from anyone out of the entire season so far, simply based on what it meant for your team.

No Not of the Week this week. Why? Well, nobody really did horrible enough to be individually or, as a group, responsible enough to ultimately cause any one squad a loss this week The blowouts would be blowouts either way, and the close games are close without someone completely blowing it.

    Standings:

    1) Fierce (8-0)*
    2) Thunder (7-1)*
    3) dice (6-2)*
    4) Penetrate (4-4)*
    5) Dynasty (3-5)
    6) ASIANS (3-5)
    6) hit (3-5)
    8) Sweet (3-5)
    9) Paladen (2-6)
    10) Tenure/Epidemic (1-7)

    *Clinched playoff spot

If nothing else, the above shows that there is definitely some real competition brewing here, as 4 teams are effectively competing for 2 playoff spots now. Here's the breakdown.

Penetrate (4-4) has wins over ASIANS and Sweet. The worst they can possibly finish in the standings (considering tiebreakers, etc) is 6th. This would require Dynasty to beat Penetrate as well as hit beating Asians next week, which would eliminate Asians and Sweet. Thus, they have clinched a playoff spot with their win over Tenure today.

For all the teams tied at 3-5 right now, it's a whole different mess. Asians and Hit have yet to play one another, and their game is going to be pretty crucial for all 4 squads. The standings up above has Dynasty currently in 5th as they are the only team to have beaten 2 of the other 3 squads in this 4 way tiebreaker. Asians/hit are tied at 6th as they have yet to face off, and Sweet is in 8th as they have losses against 2 of those 3 teams. For these four squads, 2 playoff spots are up for grabs right now. I'm not going to go into that in any depth beyond this at all, as thinking about doing so gives me a headache. But, if nothing else, this is certainly pretty freaking cool that so much is still undecided, and there are a ton of potential outcomes next week.

The full breakdown on the insane tiebreaker situation can be found here (thanks BlackMage!): http://forums.trenchwars.net/showthr...-and-Scenarios

    Week 9 will feature

    hit vs ASIANS
    Penetrate vs Dynasty
    Thunder vs Fierce
    Sweet vs Paladen
    dice vs Tenure

    Good luck to all teams!

As for NOT of the week, heard Esau was like 1-7 or something for Asians, would recommend him.

Well, it's not like we were ever going to dominate twld regular season, but i think summertime has screwed our chances to qualify to playoffs. Riverside is going to be MIA, I will pretty much miss every sunday from now on, Jones would rather get some sun tan than care about this game (though he still owns), engineers' small asian \ / eyes make it impossible for him not to get strayed. There are plenty of excuses, but yeah - guess we will play our last game next week, unless some miracle happens (doubt it).

I'm working on a total tie-breaker scenario sheet with Flared. The moral of the story is there will be an important tie-breaker in every possible TWLD scenario.

If Dynasty and Sweet both win, there is a 4-way tie with 3 of the teams going to the playoffs.

If Dynasty and Sweet both lose, there is a 4-way tie with 1 of the teams going to the playoffs.

not sure why there is such a bleak outlook on sweet's chances of playoffs. just took a quick look while at work

fierce vs thunder + dice vs tenure are irrelevant and ill just assume there are no upsets between these 2 games.

                        1. sweet plays paladen and they will probably win finishing their season 4-5

                        2. hit (3-5) plays asians (3-5) so one of these squads must end the season 3-6 and the other 4-5. i think asians will win this game (hit lost most good players) and sweet beat asians during season season which helps sweet's bargaining power even more.

                        3. penetrate (4-4) goes against dynasty (3-5).
if penetrate wins, it's fierce (9-0), thunder (7-2), dice (7-2), penetrate (5-4), sweet (4-5), and asians (4-5) as dynasty falls out to 3-6.
if dynasty wins, they and pene end 4-5 (with wins over sweet in regular season) and it's fierce (9-0), thunder (7-2) dice (7-2) dyn (4-5) pene (4-5) sweet (4-5) and asians out with (4-5)

Dynasty (lost to asians, beat sweet/pene)
penetrate (beat asians/sweet, lost to dyn)
sweet (beat asians, lost to dyn/pene)
asians (beat dyn, lost to sweet/penetrate)

so unless i misread something or made a major mistake, sweet will most likely make playoffs right?

Sweet making the playoffs is totally out of their hands, though. They need to win, yes, but a win on its own doesn't guarantee a playoff spot was what I was trying to say.

If Sweet wins, Dynasty wins, and Hit wins, Sweet is out. This is the scenario Spider is referring to.
If Sweet wins and Dynasty loses, Sweet is in regardless (5 seed if Asians wins, 6 seed if Hit wins).
If Sweet loses, they cannot make the playoffs and either finish 9th if Dynasty also loses, 9th also if Hit loses (but Dynasty wins), or somewhere between 7 and 9 (based on most kills, which they currently have the most) if both Dynasty and Hit wins.

I will make these charts for each team involved once I figure out the current Most Kills scenario.
