here's my playoff predictions


Quarters

Real over Potenza in 3

I was certainly right about Potenza having a shot to make the playoffs. I didn't necessarily expect them to, but on the same page, who was honestly expecting QS to be -that- bad? That said, Potenza can be downright devastating if you give them the chance (see the 50-18 demolishing of Thunder as an example of this) and I think Real may underestimate them to begin with, but just with the strength and depth of thelr lineup they should have what it takes to make it to semis. I'd give Potenza a greater chance to get an upset, though, of the two teams I'm predicting to lose.

hit over Penetrate in 2

Penetrate is sadly pretty much dead in the water now when it comes to LD. While they had been absolutely solid all season long and almost had a lock on winning the #2 seed outright, the departures of Rasaq, Guero and Raazi have effectively crippled this group. They've still got some solid players, I'll admit, but hit has had an entire season with effectively the same group of people, and they've taken pretty good strides in improving just in these last 10 weeks. While it won't be a cakewalk by any means, Penetrate simply doesn't have the outright talent that they did even a couple weeks ago, and the momentum has shifted completely in hit's favor after they beat Thunder in Week 9.


Semis

Thunder over Real in 3.


I'm pretty sure Thunder is past the point of their fucking around during the regular season mode, and with Raspi back in the fold, it can only help a lineup that has pretty strong depth that hasn't really needed to be utilized to its fullest yet, but may be put to the test with Ease not being able to show up. Real has underperformed this year, and while their lineups have been impressive, something hasn't quite fully clicked for them yet. The wildcard for them that could be a difference maker might actually be Mythril, but he hasn't exactly been around much this season. If he shows, though, it just makes my HoN job that much more entertaining.


Fierce over hit in 3.

Yeah. In three. LaSenza is going to have a round where he completely goes off and rattles off somewhere in the vicinity of 18-25 kills and gets this thing to go to 3 rounds. The only problem I see with that, however, is that it's gonna motivate those undefeated guys who have yet to lose a round this season. They might think that they have it real easy right now, and that level of thinking could lead to dangerous consequences. Rather low upset potential in both of these games, although I give the edge to hit on that.


Finals

Thunder over Fierce in 4.


It'll be wild. Crazy. Psychotic. Insane. Round 3 will end in a 49-49 tie! Or so I'd like to believe in this crazy fantasy of mine. Last year's finals were rather interesting just because it was a battle between teams that weren't expected to make it. This year, one of those teams didn't make the playoffs in LD, and the other doesn't exist right now and has their WBs scattered across the league. Expect big showings from the big guns of both sides, as Ease will be looking for some Season 14-related revenge, and Apok and company will be looking to justify their beating of an Ease-less Sk8. I'd also expect some difference-making moments to come from the little guys, too. Although he gets attention in many different ways, Cres has had a pretty good season for Thunder so far, and I would be surprised if he didn't get utilized in some way during this. Whatever the outcome, this is going to be a monster of a final match, one that should not be missed and will (hopefully) be recorded by somebody. If it turns out how I think it does, anyhow.

Here's my predictions.

Real vs Potenza:

I don't want to appear over confident because I know Potenza has the ability to blitzkrieg teams, but I believe real wins this match in two rounds. Every player in our starting lineup has played in TWLD finals or already won. I think the occasion will get to Potenza and they won't play up to the level they need to in order to pull off the upset. Iron survivors lag should make these rounds pretty close but it shouldn't be enough, especially with the return of mythril. R1: 50-35 real... R2: 50-41 real.

Hit vs Penetrate:

The mantra "No Creature, no victory" definitely holds true for penetrate. If creature shows up and does big things then he should be able to carry penetrate to a narrow victory. However, if he doesn't show up or doesn't have his headband on, then the Lasenza radar show should take this match over hit will win in two rounds with lasenza dying around 8 times in total. This being said I think creat will show up and lead pene to victory in 3 hotly contested rounds. R1: 50-46 penetrate, R2: 40-50 hit, R3: 50-48 penetrate.

Semi Finals:

Real vs Thunder:

This should be a great showdown between two squads that kind of coasted into the playoffs but have the potential to put on a show in crunch time. This match is probably going three rounds and none of them are going to be blowouts. Thunder has raspi back for the playoffs and real has mythril back just in time. I'm hoping that Real's depth is going to be too much for thunder to handle if subs have to be utilized on both ends. That being said, I'm calling real in 3. R1: 50-45 real, R2: 43-50 thunder, R3: 50-47 real.

Fierce vs Penetrate:

Honestly, I don't think this matchup will be close, even if Fierce ends up having to play hit. Fierce is too stacked for either squad to hope to defeat. I'm expecting Pok, Deez, and Skepsis to lead the charge, with dak and Geio snacking on the leftovers. Either way, fierce in 2. R1: 50-35 fierce, R2: 50-38 fierce.

Finals:

Fierce vs Real:

This is going to be a matchup worthy of a TWLD finals. Expect Fierce to push the agenda with Apok and Skepsis leading the push with Geio and Deez Nuts holding down midrange, and dak holding the back line shooting his customary heat seeking radar bullets. On the other hand, real will attempt to hold off their rushes and make them play reals mid to long range game style. Expect reaver and or sika to provide the pushes for real and for weaver, scoop, burnt, and jones to play their midrange jumps shot style to the maximum. If mythril gets his game back up in time for the finals, he could be a difference maker for real. I believe this matches outcome will be contingent on which squad is able to make the other play their style of match. If Fierce is able to push real around and make these matches short, they will likely take the title once again. Likewise, if real is able to hold off fierce's initial charges and turn these matches into longer mid range or snipe battles, I think the advantage is in their court. I'm not predicting a winner, because I don't know how these matches will flow. Obviously I hope real lifts the trophy, and if they do, in three tight rounds.


PS: If thunder gets by real in the semi finals, the same predictions apply in the finals based on game style.
