NEW new players start out in pub because they can't even control their ship, much less play at a coordinated team level. Why would anybody want to play with them? Would they even want to play with players at their own level? The general food chain is starting out in pub, branching out to a shitty squad, making connections with players you like and getting noticed, and then taking it seriously. TWL is not a joke (though it's becoming more and more so), that's why you have the lower parts of the food chain to practice in. It sounds like you're talking about attracting players in SS in general, which is not what this thread is about.

All I'm saying is, if it isn't paid, atleast make some kinda prize in the end for the champions other than giving us a medal next to our names. I think if the prizes get affiliated in real life it'd bring more excitement.FIRST BASER TO MVP BACK TO BACK ROUNDS AND WIN IN TWDT-D FINALS - SEASON 24 2021

I dont really agree with this 'play more and you'll get better'. Most of us on here have been playing at least 6+ years, it's not like anyone of us is going to get significantly better. Throwing this money in
will just pay for more mountain dews and Papa John's Buffalo-Style Pizza for dice/thunder(or any of its reincarnations). But, no hate for you guys for suggesting it. I woulda done the same.
I think we need to accept the fact that there are those that have simply plateaued. I mean take a look at player: Renzi and/or player Ghoul. Each have invested thousands of hours on this game, and each have skill level roughly comparable to an empty box of Hamburger Helper. Renzi's only incentive to join TWL hinges on the infinitesimally small hope of hitching a ride from a supersquad like dice. However, this is under the seemingly worn thin premise that Renzi has an operable IQ above 11 and will thus not throw his hard earned $2 into the pot.4:BigKing> xD

The point (that I've repeated many times in this thread) is that leagues are fine as they are because regular leaguers will play league anyway. Charging a fee that would circulate around the same top squads won't change anything.
If anything, if a joining fee were instituted, it should go into a pot to create a new tutorial and making the TW frontend more appealing. That way, the people that do nothing but play league will support getting new players also. To play off what Efhat said in OP, if you don't want to help new players, you shouldn't be playing TW.

Leave the leagues as they are, they don't need any help because people play them anyway. Focus energy on getting new players into league and the leagues will be revitalized with more people.Last edited by MegamanEXE; 08-28-2012, 10:59 PM.

A. Why is some guy who doesn't even play TWD and has never played TWL even arguing in this thread so adamantly?
B. If you think tw is so elitist why don't you actually start playing twd/twl and try and over throw the 'elitists' with your experience if you've been playing 10 years.
C. You want the tw donation money to go to winners of an Amateur league as opposed to TWL? All this would do would make the vets join the crap squads and get easy money in their pockets and TWL would be ruined, or you're suggesting this because YOU want to the chance to pocket some cash when you otherwise wouldn't be able to because you aren't good enough to win TWL.TWL-J Season 11 Champion

In my opinion the arguements megamanexe provides for an amateur league are sound. As Engineers pointed out: no one wants to play vs. newbies. I get that, so now we need to put together a system (such as an amateur league) to bring newbs from pub into twd and then into amateur league and finally into TWL. However, since this is a thread about TWL money prizes we should probably not talk about it here.

I know that plenty of the players wouldn't pay to play in the leagues. For some countries it's harder to do online payments, some are younger and don't have access to it, others just refuse to pay for stuff that they shouldn't have to. I am one of the last people. My brother paid for this game however many years ago, but now it's free. If you put a $0.50 entry fee on the league, you'd still receive about 15 players in twl. Why put money into a game you play for free? It's pointless. I know there are plenty of other people with the same opinions I have about spending money on a free game. They just wont do it.
tl;dr
If you want to limit TWL to just 2 squads, have them pay to enter. If you want an actual bracket, leave it free.

Basically everything that everyone has said against me has been "you aren't good enough" which is just a reworded "ur gay" type of dodging the real issue. All such "arguments" against me so far have about the combined intelligence of a stick of celery, or maybe a well-grown sweet potato.
Ricko, if you actually read my posts, you would have seen this:

Now, until someone can refute my three main arguments,
1. That leaugers have always, will, and will continue to play in the leagues without monetary incentive, and
2. That all money and effort in TW should be put into attracting and holding new players into the zone, and
3. That attracting and holding new players will revitalize leagues by getting an influx of players, which will be more effective than simply circulating money around the same handful of people,
anything else is just pointless, incoherent prattle.

Here's an idea. I'm assuming TWL will never be paid entry, and I'm ok with that, but to appease everyone, and squash some down time in the offseason. Why not have a tournaments for a few short weekends. Paid entry, just like those 2v2 duel tournaments that have been hosted in the past and what have you. Have a cap of like 8 people for a 5v5 twld/twld/twlb tournament, and maybe 12 for basing. Very small teams, due to not everyone wanting to pay or participate. Host it like twdt, where you dont have to leave your squad. Sign up through some website. Could even give badges and/or places in history like TWLB CUP (whoever came up with this idea)
Something like...
4 Max sign up team sign ups for each division. (Dueling/Javelins/Basing)
-Respective team size of 8/8/12
-Allowing people to join different teams for different divisions, allowing different names of each team
Ex: 3 league players can pay 3 different times to play on 3 different teams. (1 leaguers like myself will only play in one)
-Have everyone who is willing to pay/play throw their names into the pot
-Some how assign/elect 4 captains for each team as a captain based on skill and not captaining ability, because no one is going to want to play for someone who is a good captain rather than a good player when playing for money.
-Either have them pick their own teams from a pool like twdt, or have them players choose where they want to play like TWL. (Similar to twdt and TWL, bearing in mind this is for money, therefor people do not have to get picked)
-Have it a best if 3 rounds like, twl playoffs, 1 round elimination (would be over in 2 weekends)
This would appease everyone in my opinion. Keep TWL free and give everyone another reason to brag and take this game seriously rather than quitting during the offseason. Would be a game for the Elite of the Elite. Just an idea.....comments criticisms.1:waven> u challenge
1:waven> if i challenge it looks too scary

If you charge people to play with the pot going to the winner, the only question that would remain is who get served with the legal papers. Would it be PL for owning the servers or would it be the people running the league? You cannot solicit underage little boys to go into their mommies purse and send a few dollars in for a chance at a pot. It would perceived as online gambling. Sure you could argue in court that it is not a game of chance, let us know how much that costs you in legal fees.
I guess you could try to screen people about their age, and then screen for the various laws in all the different countries, and then work around all of that. But Johnnies father still has the option of suing and in the legal game the one with the most money (not lag) wins. I’m sure PL will jump at the chance to spend money on legal fees so that two squads can eat some free pizza.
