TWL "Farm Squads"

I have seen at least 2 so-called "Farm Teams". One of them being "Melee Farm Team". I am assuming this is some kind of little joke.

I was actually thinking about it, and it doesnt seem like a bad idea to have so-called farm teams.

There are many players out there that really want to compete with top TWL squads.

One problem is that most if not all TWL squads are invite only and do not hold tryouts like most other new squads.

The idea of having a "Farm Team" is almost the same as Major League baseball teams having Minor League Teams.

Players that would like to, someday join a TWL squad could join a Farm Team. They could get training from the original team or just have someone run the squad.

There have been cases around TWL recently where players do not have enough players to compete and therefore forfeit the match. If this was the case, a TWL squad could always go to their "Farm Team" and choose someone to take the place of a squad member that is not available for the "Big TWL squad".

I know there is a squad lock in which players cannot play in TWL matches after the lock. They may join but they cannot play. Maybe there can be an exception with official "farm teams".

Anyway, I have take then liberty to make "Farm Teams" for the following squads:

Value Farm Team
Anti-Scrub Farm Team
Rampage Farm Team
Light Farm Team
Sk8 Farm Team
Cripples Farm Team


If the squad's captains would like the squadname, I will be happy to ?squadgrant. Just ?message Gerry: I want a farm team.

Not to burst your bubble but I don't think the TWL teams would want farm teams. There aren't enough basing squads in TWDB let alone a farm squad for each TWLB squad.

It doesnt just have to be for basing. I never said that. A farm team would basically have "for-sure" TWL squad recruits, since the training will be coming from the particular squad.

Please mind me if I'm not making any sense. I have been drinking all day today.

you can also just pick up talented people and train them, without having a farm squad.

I was thinking about this while standing around at work today scratching my balls. There is one deciding factor which will cause the demise of every farm squad created under any major TWL squad: Narcissism.
Unlike baseball, subspace hardly has the incentive to work your way through the minors into the majors. Are they seriously going to put themselves in a squad that undermines their ego? Anyone who thinks they are decent enough are going to expect to be put straight into a TWL spot even though there is no place for them, and the general reaction will be, "Screw them. If they don't let me play I'll find someone who will."

Joining Anti-Scrub is bad enough, but why oh why would you want to join A-S Farm Team?

We at Diso have decided to go back to our roots, and open a farm for everyone that is willing enough to learn, through hard work and sweat, all what it takes to become an elite player. We'll have theme-days, field-trips, and generally great fun under the protection of your mentors that each of you will get assigned to. What we are looking for is not only skills, but dedication, personality and overall good looks. One player that is considered the best out of the batch, after 3 months, will be promoted to ranks of Disoblige thus earning a pointy, yellow hat.

Melee Farm Team is renaming when it gets a chance. The new name will be OffGuard. Its renaming for the reason you mentioned: the name "farm team" sort of makes the team feel inadequate.

Rand and I decided after seeing what happened to Cripples and whats happening to Shriek that it could be avoided just by having a group of players (TWL level or not) that would join Melee if needed, and in exchange we give them a respectable TWD squad and some training. It's really a great idea I think the players in Melee Farm Team are some of the nicest guys I've met.

Thats why its going to be hard when the captain of MFT axes the ones who dont make the cut and has tryouts for new players, but it has to be done. If a player gains skill maybe we'll add him to Melee, if he isnt good enough we may axe him. If a player on Melee isnt on a TWL level then we may put him on MFT for awhile. It's a really great idea and we're just testing it at the moment

The main problem I see with this is this....

let's say someone from the pallies farm team gets invited to join anti-scrub... I'm betting he'd join.

I think it's cool if squads like melee are really putting effort into this, and if it works for them, Id be temped to steal their business plan and do it for pallies. But I'll wait and see if it falls apart for them first.

You'd have to find some people so loyal that they don't mind being premoted to the big leagues or demoted to the little leagues and you're simply just not gonna find that on a game where the average age is so low.

That, and it works for baseball because it's there job, they get paid the molla for it, maybe if i paid my farmteam they'd be loyal, but i doubt it

The captain we put in charge of MFT got bored of "dealing with newbies" so he put in his resignation from the farm team, but I think he's gonna start some other sort of Melee expansion
