TWLB Hot or Not -- WEEK 9
Penetrate vs. Cobra
15:00-12:23
Another week with only a single game played, and another week with an exciting, competitive match. Everyone in spec and their grandmother was mocking Renzi's (66-69, 1 tek) negging score rather than actually watching him play, which is a shame, because despite 1+ month of inactivity, Renzi took on the unenvious task of vs.'ing Acidbomber under. He played better against him than anyone else this season, rooted him out solo several times, and Acid received more support under (from Zhou especially) than Renzi -- I can't recall him losing much if any 1v1 battles where he had a chance.
By being the only dedicated under, he gave his other four spiders a chance against the 2-time champs, and saetep (92-68), Murder (93-60), infrared (89-75), and Ricko (83-81) made the most of it, pushing hard and unselfishly behind the juggernaut Dwopple (2.7 RPD, 20 kills) and Creature (2.7 RPD, 2 teks), maintaining the slightest of leads throughout the contest up until 11-9.
Pene, for their part, played positionally solid, albeit campy, sitting Pusher-in-Chief Solace for Blahhy. (121-59), temporary (106-64, 4 teks!!) and zhou (108-60), while mainstays Trasher (91-49) and Acidbomber (100-56) grounded the fivesome.
fermata (2.7 RPD) notched a pair of nice teks alongside Krage (2.9 RPD, 17 kills), as the combo fought the Cobramin sharks to a veritable stalemate throughout the game with solid play on both sides.
After some excellent play throughout the match surviving Penetrate's suffocating streams from ideal positions, Chief Utsav (34-12, 1 tek) went Pure_Luck dying to a pair of zhou bullets under while in bad position, then kami'd the cram when Cobra had broken it and died. Cintra (36-7, 2 teks) had a pair of questionable deaths, but in more compromised positions, and weren't momentum killers like Chief's.
While the 594-489 killcount makes it look like Pene was in command, their spiders weren't nearly as pushy, and this game could have easily gone the other way had Chief been able to continue his solid play throughout the game and avoid the ignominious errors.
Ultimately, however, this was a moral victory for Cobra after a streak of bad play (and giving Dudgeon their only win), showing they can still compete at a high level. The entire makeup of the squad looks different when Renzi is in the line, and for the better, whether the comments from spec reflect it or not.
HOT: Krage/porkjet, combined 32 kills, 2 teks, 2.8 RPD, matched wits with a very strong Cobra shark duo and gave their spids a chance to win in a tough game where the enemy pushed into them a lot harder, making 3-reps tougher to come by
NOT: Chief Utsav, 12 deaths, quite a few of them poor, specifically in the last 10 minutes of the game. His team could have definitely won this one -- need a terr of Chief's talent to step up more in the crunch -- there is no Cape to step in and save him on Cobra
HOT Player of the Week: fermata, 15 kills, 2.7 RPD, smart mining, good spread of reps, and some scintillating aimed-shrap that made TABARNAK!!! cream his pants in spec -- renzi still wondering how that shrap hit him through the hole under
