Loser's Semi-Final


Cobra vs. Burn

Round 1

One of the most epic TWLD matches of the season unfolded yesterday, as Absent completed the heroes journey, coming back from an abysmal 2-7 to 10-9, where he knocked out Weak while 1v2 to take on Mythril 1v1, after the latter had sniped Ricko in a short-lived 2v2 between the four of them.

Close to 100 people in spec held their breath as former TWEL-D Champion Mythril, one of the most vaunted warbird duelers in Trench Wars history, took on Absent in this David versus Goliath sudden death. Surely, he didn't stand a chance?

After whipping across the map trading blows, Absent pixel-dodged a mid-range laser from Mythril, and fired the game-winning riposte to seal the game, clinching Round 1 for Cobra. En Garde!

Absent (11-9) spearheaded strong showings from Rasaq (12-10), Ricko (11-10), Casket (9-10), and Clark Kentaro (7-10).

Ease (12-10), Raazi (11-10), Weak (9-10), Best (9-10), and Mythril (9-10) fell one kill short for Burn.

Burn vs. Cobra

Round 2

Ease (14-8) led all warbirds in the second round, as Burn stepped its game up, leading Best (11-8), Weak (9-7), Mythril (7-7), and Raazi (9-10) to the W.

Ricko (10-10) and Absent (10-10) once again were the two best birds for Cobra, with Casket crumbling mentally after a 7-1 start to finish 9-10 (yikes!), with sub-par showings from Kentaro (6-10) and Rasaq (5-10) accounting for the majority of the score differential, leading to the loss.

NOT: Rasaq

Burn vs. Cobra
50-40
Round 3

Ease once again proved too much for Cobra to handle, as he scorched them with a ridiculous 15-4, ahead of Best (14-10), Weak (9-9), Raazi (6-9), and Mythril (6-8), as the latter three teetered on the brink of death, managing to hold it together and keep the superiority in numbers edge.

Absent (9-10), Clark Kentaro (9-10), Rasaq (8-10), and Ricko (8-10) all played well, while Casket (6-10) continued to fade in the clutch, putting in the worst performance out of the ten warbirds in play.

HOT: Ease
NOT: Casket stunk like Blue cheese round 1, crumbled like Feta cheese round two, then got his head chopped off like Cheddard Stark round 3.

HONORING THE FALLEN
Ricko (Cobra)

Ricko had an incredibly strong season, leading the league in KDA, with the second-best Kills Per Game average of 11.23, and finishing fourth in kills, with a 146-94 stat line. Ricko went positive during every game in the regular season, and went 11-10, 10-10, 8-10 against Burn. That 8-10 was his lowest score of the season... the man didn't have a single bad game all year. Insane!

Loser's Final


Burn vs. Potenza
50-33
Round 1

Weak (13-4) broke out in the second match of the day, as Ease (12-7), Raazi (10-4), Best (9-9), and Mythril (6-9) led Potenza to the slaughter, slamming them a resounding 50-33. Yikes!

Tanzu (11-10) was the lone bright spot for Potenza, having a strong showing, while Iron Survivor (7-10), Cres (6-10), Mr. Tinkles (4-10), and Dwarf (4-10) were all atrocious.

HOT: Weak
NOT: Dwarf (4-10), who had no business being in warbird, let alone a TWLD playoff match. His aim blows, he shift-runs and never fakes making him an easy target, doesn't cover or rush, and looked like trash out there, which is actually an insult to trash, because trash was once useful before being thrown away -- something Dwarf has never been.

Burn vs. Potenza
50-41
Round 2

Burn put down Potenza like a rabid dog, knocking them out of TWLD in straight sets, as Iron Survivor (9-10), Mr. Tinkles (9-10), Cres (8-10), and Tanzu (8-10) were decent but unimpressive, all negging both rounds except Siaxis, proving they were more bark than bite after yapping all season. Dwarf (1-5) was once again a sieve, with Shaun (6-5) filling in nicely.

Weak (12-6) continued his strong play, while Raazi (11-6) finally came online after being quiet most of the day, with Best (11-10), Ease (9-9), and Mythril (7-10) in tow.

HOT: Raazi
NOT: Dwarf (1-5). Someone smelt this anchor into a coat rack, so he can hang up his jersey for good. Awful.

HONORING THE FALLEN
Iron Survivor (Potenza)

Iron Survivor finished second in the league in kills, putting up an impressive 151-110 record over 14 games, also good for the third best kills per game average. He had an impressive streak, going positive 10 games in a row to start the season, including 12-5, 16-6 scores versus Cobra in the Winner's Semi-Final. He cooled off against Fierce and Burn, only going positive once, but never had a score worse than 7-10 the entire season, making him a model of consistency.

Fierce vs. Juans
50-41
Round 1

revered reverted from Bruce Banner to The Hulk this sunday, stomping Juans for a massive 18-9 statline to lead LAST STANDING (11-6), a much-improved 24 (9-7), Apricot (7-9), and Geio (5-10) to the W.

Lorko (11-10) was the lone positive score on the losing side, as John Juan (8-10), Tom Juan (7-10), Steadman (6-10), and Healt (4-10) all failed to reach parity.

HOT: revered
NOT: Healt. "Healter, skelter, in a summer swelter, got more bombs dropped on you than a fallout shelter."

Fierce vs. Juans

Round 2

Juans went out with more of a whimper than a bang, in a lopsided 50-35 match, as LAST STANDING (12-8), Apricot (10-6), Geio (8-4), revered (11-10), and 24 (7-7) saw Fierce through to the Loser's Final.

Tom Juan (11-10) and Healt (8-10) were the only players to put up much of a fight, as John Juan (6-10), Lorko (5-10), and Steadman (4-10) got slammed.

And with that, Juans is eliminated from TWL!

HOT: LAST STANDING
NOT: Steadman (4-10). A player known for causing interpersonal strife rather than unity, did manage to unite one thing: Last Standing's balls in his mouth.

HONORING THE FALLEN
Tom Juan (Juans)

This was a tie, as both Tom and Healt finished with exactly 153 kills in 16 games. Tom Juan finished second in the league in kills, with an impressive 153-123 record, leading Juans to a respectable 4th place finish in TWLJ. He went 12-8, 14-10, 11-8 in knocking out Cobra in the playoffs last weekend, and had a team high 11-10 in their final round of the season vs. Fierce. Nice work!

HONORING THE FALLEN
Healt (Juans)

Healt also finished second in the league in kills, with a 153-128 record in 16 games. Healt MVP'd Round 3 to knock out Cobra in the playoffs with a 13-8, and had Juans most impressive single-round performance of the season, with a Herculean 16-5 Round 2 win against Burn the Playoffs -- Hot stuff coming through!

Loser's Final


Dudgeon vs. Fierce
50-35
Round 1

Last year's TWLJ Finalists went to work early in this match, taking down Fierce by 15 as Zizzo (14-7) led, Commodo (10-5), megaman89 (9-5), Rough (10-8), Stayon (3-8), and sub-ins Dreamwin (1-2) and Maketso (1-0) to the victory.

24 (12-10) continued to impress on Sunday, showing up when his team needed him the most, but was utterly let down by poor performances from Apricot (7-10), Last Standing (6-10), Revered (5-10), Geio (1-7), and Kado (1-3).

HOT: Zizzo
NOT: Geio (1-7). Like an STD, Geio transmitted his warbirding skills to javelin. And, like herpes, he breaks out once in awhile for a good score, but is ultimately something you'd rather not have.

Fierce vs. Dudgeon
50-42
Round 2

After an abysmal two weeks of disappointing playoff performances, 24 went Super Saiyan this Sunday, dropping a massive 16-6 on Dudgeon and keeping Fierce's TWLJ season alive. Last Standing (10-4), Revered (9-8), Apricot (8-5), and Kado (6-9) also played well, winning by 8.

Commodo (10-10) was the lone javelin to show up for Dudgeon in Round 2, as dreamwin (7-10), Zizzo (6-10), Rough (5-10), and megaman89 (4-10) all negged.

Dudgeon vs. Fierce
50-42
Round 3

Despite 24 (11-10) and revered's (10-10) best efforts, Fierce fell in Round 3, as Last Standing (7-10), Kado (5-10), Apricot (3-8), and Geio (1-2) couldn't keep up their Round 2 pace.

Stayon (16-9) went nuts Round 3, alongside megaman89 (12-5), as the Season 16 TWLJ champs atoned for awful performances in Round 1 and 2 respectively, snatching the victory from Fierce, ahead of Commodo (9-9), Dreamwin (6-9), and Zizzo (7-7), who subbed out Rough (0-3) within the first two minutes of the game.

HOT: Stayon
NOT: Apricot (3-8)
NOT: Rough (0-3). After a 5-10 in Round 2, and getting subbed out at 0-3 in a win in Round 3, Rough once again proved the only thing he clutches is his cane while yelling at kids to get off his lawn.

HONORING THE FALLEN
Revered (Fierce)

Revered finished #1 in kills at the time of his elimination, 12 kills ahead of the pack despite playing several less games, finishing with an incredible 165-123 in 14 games! Wowza. He was a total beast in the playoffs as well, going 13-8 and 16-7 to knockout Potenza, then dropping an earth-shattering 18-9 to take down Juans, while posting strong 12-10, 9-8, 10-10 scores against Dudgeon, whom they fell to in the Loser's Bracket Final, as Revered led Fierce to 3rd place in TWLJ. Amazing season, congrats!

Loser's Semi-Final


Cobra vs. LEGO
20:00-14:36

Trasher (154-49) led all spiders, ahead of Megalo (144-83), skatarius (139-73), squallFF8 (125-66), and Ricko (113-62), with cranium (2.7 RPD) and menelvagor (2.8 RPD) in shark.

Pressure (62-5) was a particular standout, anchoring the Cobra line with excellent play and a massive score.

For LEGO, it was a disappointing end to an uneven season replete with devastating no-shows and hilariously bad captaining. Spikey, Zizu, and Vatican Assassin had been mostly absent all season, but NL>Trigger not able to show definitely was the nail in the coffin, as he had been fantastic all season in terrier.

In his place, df started pat fucking boblemoche (9-5), in the hardest ship to play, in a must-win TWLB playoff game... the decision-making here is so baffling. They then changed their best spider to terr, as turban (28-4) terred the final 2/3rds of the game. then df decided it was a great time to make his TWLB spidering debut, subbing himself in for Henry Saari (83-44), ie, the guy who gets 140 kills every game and has multiple years LB experience (campy or not, he's still above average), going 39-39, while leaving Pat B (55-50) in, who got 55 kills in about 27 minutes. Nice work demoting TJ Hazuki so you could lord over TWLB and run it into the ground with your ineptitude, then sub yourself in for someone who's significantly better than you.

TJ Hazuki (120-109) led all LEGO spiders, ahead of mr. homo (95-81), Jatt (85-81), and Turban/Pat B/df, while markmrw (2.8 RPD) and DSB (2.9 RPD) sharked for them.

Despite all these problems, LEGO still put up a good fight, managing 14.5 minutes against a veteran line.

HOT: Pressure
NOT: df (39-39). Nice 39-39 sub-in for a TWLB veteran who's 83-44 and had 47 games played in TWBD (2nd most in TW) to your 14 -- you were clearly better prepared and deserving. I'd suggest you become the waterboy, but the last time a captain as inept as you took on that much water, the Titanic sank.

NL>Trigger (LEGO)

NL>Trigger had a fantastic season in terrier, although he was unfortunately unable to show this week (I considered naming Markmrw instead, who made big strides in shark this season). Despite being a Top 5 underspider in the game, his talent in ship 5 and Zizu's inability to show propelled him into anchoring LEGO's line, where he posted a 50-8 average, the most kills per game and 4th best KDA, with scores of 36-2, 48-8 (vs. Burn), 30-6 (vs. Dudgeon), 41-8, and 52-9 in their Playoff game vs. Fierce. He really flashed his talent against the two best squads, keeping LEGO in both their games against Burn and Dudgeon, and you couldn't ask for much more from a terr. Nice work!

TJ Hazuki (LEGO)

TJ Hazuki played every game this season for LEGO and finished third in kills, posting a 749-571 tally, and finished 2nd in Teks among spiders, with 11. More importantly, he was pushy, selfless, and played for the team and never for his rec, and along with Turban helped turn LEGO's over into a competent force. He led his team in kills in their final playoff game, rattling off 120 kills. Kudos!

Loser's Final


Dudgeon vs. Cobra
20:00-13:25

Mikkiz (35-6, 5 Teks!) terred ahead of porkjet (2.8 RPD) and Commodo (3.0 RPD), as Dudgeon took on the Cobra-kai in the TWLB Loser's Bracket Finals.

dreamwin (126-69), megaman89 (121-75), Stayon (117-62), JAMAL (113-77), and Zizzo (93-87) took on spidering duties, winning by 7 minutes.

This was a closer game than expected, as Cobra made a nice push mid-game (and pork decided Mikkiz wasn't worthy of an ace), as Pressure (45-10, 3 Teks) quarterbacked for cranium (2.7 RPD) and menelvagor (2.7 RPD), with Trasher leading all spiders with a 135-65, alongside Megalo (111-83), skatarius (111-90), squallFF8 (98-64), and Ricko (97-68).

Cobra looked the best they had all season in this game, and at times it felt like they could have unseated the basing behemoth that is Dudgeon, but the TWLB champions kicked it up a notch and the result was never truly in doubt as their significant early lead was never close to being lost.

HOT: megaman89
NOT: None, I thought everyone played pretty well, and Cobra was solid.

HONORING THE FALLEN
Trasher (Cobra)

This was a pretty easy one to decide, as Trasher led the entire league in kills by a significant margin with a mind-boggling 893-364. Holy! Not only that, he was second in the league in Teks, with 11, and led Cobra to a third place finish in TWLB, alongside Megalo and skatarius (who finished second and fourth, respectively). The TWLB champion once again showed himself matchup-proof, dropping ridiculous numbers regardless of opponent.

Cranium (Cobra)

Cobra got significantly better the second Cranium was added to their line, especially with menelvagor not playing his best of late. While neither are in their primes, Cranium has always been one of the elite sharks in the zone, of which there are very few, and proved a big factor in their success in eliminating LEGO and putting up significant time versus Dudgeon. Practicing or not, Cran is a huge asset who makes a world of difference in base.

WB OF THE WEEK: Ease
Ease erupted on Sunday, going off for scores of 12-10, 14-8, 15-4, 12-7 and 9-9 to knockout both Cobra and Potenza, tallying an impressive 62-38 statline on Sunday, setting up his third TWLD Finals matchup against Fierce in four years.


JAVs OF THE WEEK: megaman89 and 24
megaman89 led Dudgeon to their second (and his third) consecutive Final, as he faces WB of the Week Ease for the sixth (!!) time in the TWLJ Championship match (S20 - Dudgeon vs. Burn, S19 - Dudgeon vs. Thunder, S18 - Dice vs. Pandora, S14 - Dice vs. Sk8, S12 - Dice vs. Thunder, S8 - Dice vs. Sk8). Mega dropped 9-5, 12-5 performances to take out Fierce and set up another classic TWLJ Finals.
24 went 9-7, 7-7 in eliminating Juans, then went 12-10, 16-6, 11-10 when it mattered most against a top-tier opponent in Dudgeon, proving me wrong and showing what he's made of in jav. Kudos!

Honorable Mention: Revered, for his massive 18-9 against Juans, and strong play across all five rounds this weekend.


BASERs OF THE WEEK: Commodo and Porkjet
Even with porkjet trolling Mikkiz with one of the worst TKs in history, the combination of Commodo's 21 kills and 3.0 RPD and Porkjets 24 kills and 2 Teks, not to mention some excellent cram breaks and well-timed bombs, helped propel Dudgeon into their second consecutive finals.

Every week I'll be highlighting a player from a squadron eliminated from competition in their respective league. Here's a recap of those who fell these past three weeks.

HONORING THE FALLEN
Jones (Vikings)

Jones ended his TWLD season leading the entire league in Kills Per Game, with a 12.33 average over 9 games, as well as the record for most kills in a round, with 20, while posting the second most kills up to this point, with an amazing 111-77 record. All this while on one of the worst warbirding squads in the league. Kudos!


HONORING THE FALLEN
Racketeer (Paladen)

Racketeer went out with a bang, burning LEGO for 16 in a tough 50-48 Round 3 loss, putting up an impressive 87-71, 30 kills ahead of anyone else on Paladen, and one of only two players on his squad to go positive this season, with a solid +16. His 87 kills were 15th best in the league despite the handicap of playing on a bad team, and he proved he very much belongs in TWLD. Nice work!

Turban (LEGO)

Turban finished third in kills in TWLD, with a 129-120 record and playing every game for the undermanned and poorly helmed LEGO squad, who, along with Flew (Runner-up to this award with a respectable 107-115 record, including a 17-7 vs. Dudgeon in Week 3) willed LEGO past Paladen in a Round 3, 50-48 win last weekend to keep their season alive and played all 13 games. Stalwart effort!

Zizzo (Dudgeon)

Zizzo finished fourth in TWLD in kills, quietly putting together a fantastic season, notching an impressive 128-121 record over 13 games, including 15-9, 13-8 performances to take out Vikings in the Quarter-Finals, and 10-10, 11-10 against championship contenders Burn. Nice work!

Ricko (Cobra)

Turban had a monster season for LEGO, leading the league in kills with a ridiculous 125-89 record, as well as kills per game (12.5), and +/-, going +36, on top of notching the only 20 kill game this season (the next highest is 17), doing everything humanly possible to keep LEGO's TWLJ season alive. No one on LEGO had over 48 kills this season. Truly a titanic effort. Well done, sir.

euforia (You2be)

euforia had a great season on You2be, finishing 4th in the league in kills, with a 98-99 record, averaging 10 kills per game, and the second-highest score in a TWLJ game this season, with 17. He had almost double the amount of kills as the next player on You2be, leading the team all season in javelin, and put in solid scores in their must-win playoff games. Nice work!

HONORING THE FALLEN
Trasher (Cobra)

Neymar and Zazerick had the best regular seasons for Cobra, but neither showed when it mattered in a must-win game vs. Juans to keep their season alive, so it came down to Trasher (81-87), Shadowmere (97-108), and Wax (91-96). Shadow was on the verge of breaking out as a superstar jav last year, so this season is quite the regression, Wax is a longtime veteran jav and was solid but not spectacular, while Trasher is primarily a baser, yet contributed all season, then performed in the clutch, leading his squad with a 12-9 in their Round 2 win, and a stalwart 11-10 in their Round 3 loss, narrowly losing to a talented Juans squad, making him my choice as Cobra's standout player in TWLJ. He was their best jav when it mattered the most. Congrats!

Okyo (Potenza)

Okyo was a complete monster for Potenza in TWLJ this season, finishing 5th in the league in kills with 123, including a Herculean 16-10 this week, and 12-10 and 11-10s last week to knock LEGO out of contention, continuing his dominance in both warbird and javelin. Kudos!

This was a tie, as both Tom and Healt finished with exactly 153 kills in 16 games. AFRI (Paladen)

AFRI was easily the standout baser on Paladen this season, leading his team in kills in every game in spider, and amassing an impressive 101 KP30M this season. Managing to average over 100 kills a game on such a bad team is an impressive feat, especially given how tough most of their matches were. Good job!

HONORING THE FALLEN
Steep (Vikings)

Steep was Vikings best spider this season, finishing 16th out of over 100 in kills, with a 468-273 record and 104 kills per game, including a team-high 125-86 against Cobra in the second round of the playoffs. He was a veteran presence on Vikings all season, and was a big part of their success. Kudos!

HONORING THE FALLEN
warportal (Vikings)

warportal anchored the Vikings line in the toughest ship to play and under the most scrutiny, showing to 100% of matches and keeping many of them competitive despite being out-gunned. He posted a 37-7 in their upset against Fierce, leading them to a 15-12 victory despite his spiders being outkilled by 50 (often the mark of a great terring performance.) He wasn't flashy and he wasn't perfect, but without him Vikings success wouldn't have been possible. Vikings clearly agreed, as more than one lobbied me for him to get this award. Nice work!

Sphinx (Fierce)

Sphinx showed to every week, finishing 5th in the league in kills, and leading his squad with a 610-322 record, and was their most consistent spider (alongside Apricot), on top of playing well in their matches against Burn and LEGO in the playoffs. Kudos!

DOWNFALL (Fierce)

When it comes to sharks, Downfall led the entire lead in Teks with 9, nearly averaging a 3.0 RPD and playing in all 9 of Fierce's games, with strong agressive showing in every one of them. Not only that, but he also led the entire league in kills, with 102. Excellent season! This was a tough call picking only one special, as Everett was great all season as well, but DOWNFALL led too many offensive categories to ignore.

Trasher (Cobra)

Despite being a Top 5 underspider in the game, his talent in ship 5 and Zizu's inability to show propelled him into anchoring LEGO's line, where he posted a 50-8 average, the most kills per game and 4th best KDA, with scores of 36-2, 48-8 (vs. Burn), 30-6 (vs. Dudgeon), 41-8, and 52-9 in their Playoff game vs. Fierce. He really flashed his talent against the two best squads, keeping LEGO in both their games against Burn and Dudgeon, and you couldn't ask for much more from a terr. Nice work!

HONORING THE FALLEN
TJ Hazuki (LEGO)

TJ Hazuki played every game this season for LEGO and finished third in kills, posting a 749-571 tally, and finished 2nd in Teks among spiders, with 11. More importantly, he was pushy, selfless, and played for the team and never for his rec, and along with Turban helped turn LEGO's over into a competent force. He led his team in kills in their final playoff game, rattling off 120 kills. Kudos!

TWLD is up!

Given that there are a lot less matches than previous weeks, I should be able to get the entire thing done tonight. TWLB for sure. TWLJ likely tonight as well, at the latest Tuesday.

Probably my best season ever overall or in recent years. Thanks for the mention Claus! But to be fair to DF regarding Henry Saari - he had to go so he had to sub him out. DF did fine I thought but yea Cobra had there A Line on while we were missing some key players.(Mango, NL Trigger, Producer) Great season overall.

I think turb deserved a LB shoutout even though he's been a "honoring the fallen" player in other leagues. Not sure if you directly watched the LB quarters game, but this guy completely held LEGO together in that last match. tj was very good too

Wish I didn't lag all season, I think Cobra had a more than capable LB-finalist/winner line, but lag travesties and no-shows throughout late pre-season and the regular season prevented us from developing any real chemistry. It was fun for the past 2 weeks I was able to play, and I'm proud that we were able to take down a strong LEGO (yeah, you guys were impressive this season, even in this quarter finals match) and almost take down Dudgeon. I feel that if Dudg hadn't come out strong and I hadn't gotten easy/luck-TeK'd 5x in the first 2 minutes, we could have won that game. We definitely held it down the 2nd half of the match, but it was too late at that point.

Fun season, I really hope there is another one that starts soon while players are still hungry. There was actually some good LB competition. Good job with the weekly write-ups too claus
