Qualifying for TWEL Season 13 has already begun! The TWEL ladder has been reset and the you have until Sunday, August 1st at 11:59 PM EST to qualify.

This will be the first 1v1 TWEL since 2016 so it's time to crown some new champions!

In order to qualify for the TWEL playoff brackets you need to:

- Have a minimum of 1 duels logged in Warbird to enter TWEL-D, a minimum of 1 duels in Javelin for TWEL-J, a minimum of 1 Spider duels to enter TWEL-S by the deadline of Sunday, August 1st at 11:59 PM EST. This gives you a little over 4 weeks to get your duels in and position yourself into the playoffs. You can qualify for all leagues, just know that you would need the required amount of duels in each league to participate.

- Be in the top 32 in your respective ladder by the deadline. Depending on turnout, TWEL-S may need to be a 16 man bracket instead of 32, we'll see what happens. The champions from last season will not auto-qualify this season. They must qualify like everyone else.

You can only have ONE account for TWEL. Dueling on multiple accounts or playing on someone else's name will result in you/whoever else is on your name being removed from TWEL. If you need help resetting a name, please contact myself, Dwopple, or Tiny and we will help you out.


TWEL DUELING RULES:

During qualifications, you will be allowed to use any rules you want. If you're caught being fed for duels or feeding others, those duels will be void and you will NOT be allowed to participate in TWEL playoffs.

For playoffs, it's mandatory that every duel is set to NC, Warp, 10 deaths, and win by 2. If I find out that a duel is not set under these rules, the duel will be VOID, regardless of winner, score, or circumstance and will be replayed with the appropriate rule set. During playoffs, each round will have a maximum time of ONE week to complete AKA by midnight the next Sunday (EST). It's up to you and your opponent to set up that duel and make it happen. Not logging on will result in disqualification. If there's something going on, obviously I'm willing to work with you as long as you let me know ahead of time. There will be more clarification on the playoff rules as we get closer to July 18th.

Can we just signup to qualify? 5 duels is a lot with current activity of zone and I see no reasoning or meaning behind having 5 measly duels either. Please allow signup up list.

Can we at least have staff set up a Zoner Notification when people want to play duels? I could sit in that arena waiting for 3 weeks and not get a game as it stands now. Also a !challenge all command is really needed on duelbot. Thx

Good call on the bot needing a !zone command. This has now been added, with a 15 min cooldown. I don't think a !challengeall or equivalent command is needed however. Since you can only challenge players who are present, asking for games in spec chat should do pretty much the same thing.

I don't think a good step in the right direction is bashing people who are trying to make things happen and adapting to circumstances with the population that the game currently holds. All Beam is trying to do is lower the barrier of entry so that more people can be involved in a dueling tournament. This is a time where the community should come together in finding a solution to a low population problem.

That being said, I don't think a dueling tournament is the way to go. Reason being, is that I don't believe most people nowadays find dueling that interesting especially with the low population we have right now. Dueling tournaments should be held along with another league when the hype for the game is at a peak, and a point where people would be interested in dueling each other when there aren't TWD matches being played or a Draft Tourny Sunday etc.

What I do think we should do is revive Elim. What was the thing that brought the competitive community back in the first place, prior to TWD matches and the eventual TWLs/DTs? It was elim. Before the coronavirus hit, I remember logging in 5pm Eastern time and seeing 40-50 people playing Elim for a good two hours before moving on with playing matches with their squads.

Why Elim is good for the game:

a) Elim has a low barrier of entry. Essentially, when a match is over with, anyone can just log in and enter and play right then and there. It is really easy to bring the hype back into the game with a league revolved around just logging in and playing.

b) The idea is straight forward. Free for all match to a certain amount of deaths. Last player standing wins. Its easy for veterans to come back in and play these matches that don't require too much thought about rules or violations. Same thing goes for newer players who are just getting into the competitive side of the game.

c) It is something to do when TWD matches aren't being played. What do most people do when TWD matches aren't happening in today's world? They go and play pub, or they just log off and don't play at all.

d) It is an easy environment for players to get familiar with one another even if they aren't necessarily playing the game. When there are 2-4 people still in the Elim match playing it out, what does the rest of the player base that is logged on do in that time? They sit in spec and chat with one-another. This is all happening within the same arena.

It is an easy restart to the game, I think it requires at least a look into with regarding population build up within the game. Also, I'd like to commend Beam for still trying different methods of tournaments to keep the hype in the game. Not many people would.
