TW CUP 2025 first round review
Last weekend and surprisingly also Monday saw first games of cup played. I can truly say its 2025 and this game still manages to surprise everyone.
WARBIRD
Cup schedule has several teams having less games played per weekend. First weekend we had only Ethereal and Avengers playing 3 games, while rest of teams had 2 matchups. In historic event, Ethereal and Prime agreed to play their game on Monday evening. Time will tell if this was one off or we will see more of those in upcoming weeks.
What can be said that majority of the games were pretty one-sided events. Except for that Monday evening game, which managed to surprise everyone who saw that live or saw the legendary Myths recording later.
Happy Hippos has started the cup with best record, comfortably beating Ethereal and Alieexpress in their games. Bike, dreamwin and zapata all did what they were suppose to with stayon/harder putting in solid performances with 2 clear wins.
Avengers had a shaky game against clearly unmanned alieexpress, missing several top players. Most probably underestimating the opponent, Avengers in the end did win but by far smaller margin than was expected before game. Game vs Prime showed Avengers still have alot to improve in teaming with Jabra and morp both playing poorly in clear loss, but last game vs ethereal was already better. From players, iron and okyo did well, with morph clearly still rusty and playing below expectations in highly anticipated return of the legend into league gameplays.
Prime started weekend well with what seemed to be Rackas return to shape in a dominating game vs Avengers with riverside also showing glimpses of his genius. But noone really expected them to lose to Ethereal, fieling oldshiet (6* 10th round pick) while Prime played with pretty much their best lineup with even beam showing up. Upset for the ages, which probably comes down to Prime clearly underestimating opponent, but also Ekkos team really focusing on team effort vs Prime trying to just take the presumably weaker players out one by one. Racka/jurassic both biggest culprits, going out of game early leaving rest of team 3v5 for long period of time.
Ethereal was expected to be most probably the worst team in the league and Sunday games really didnt show much promise. Also missing dak for first game and fielding damageinc (1-9) didnt really support their effort against Happy Hippos. Second game vs Avengers, this time with Dak wasnt really much better. But the win against Prime goes into TW annals as one of the greatest underdog performances, somehow oldshiet survived while playing like crazy, tj showed up with crucial KOs and jz found his inner 10* with dak at his usual best. If cripple/absurd decide to show up, maybe this team isnt that hopeless?
Alieexpress probably wants to forget this weekend ever happened. As expected, showups will be big issue for siaxis. On a positive note, its always nice when last round picks like Public Assasin get gametime, as well as rabbit, more inclusive league means more fun for everyone. Another positive note for alieexpress has to be Rampage performance, he was excellent in both games and is clearly undervalued in wb. It is difficult to shine in games where you are clearly underdog, but he managed that. So if top players show, this team can still pull up a surpise.

JAVELIN
Jav had less games this weekend, with Terroriist/pub crackheads having only 1 game and rest of teams 2. Jav games were pretty one-sided and uneventful, hopefully this will pick up next week.
Monster had the perfect weekend, dispatching both Ethereal and Pure luck in 2 easy games. Despite spirit struggling in both games, Rampage, okyo, morph and kangal all played and show they are force to be reckoned with in this league, while also missing a few players.
Terrorist despatched in their single game ethereal so bad that it made bombed quit jav. Being Ekkos nr 1 pick, that cannot sound good. Dw/commodo/jabra/dwopple/zizu lineup worked well in the most onesided game for this weekend.
Pub crackheads had also rather easy game vs tinyless pure luck. Stayon lead the way with rest of team supporting in a comfortable win. So 3 teams come out of first weekend with clean record.
Pure luck missed their captain tiny and also skatarius was missing. Noone really managed to step up as well with rabbit! having especially dissapointing weekend.
Ethereal was another team losing both games. What is more worrying is that they really didnt miss that many crucial players and with bombed now qutting jav (noone of course knows if its true), they are not really expected to do any better in future. Hellkite was really poor for his high pick status, with subs PA/rabbit both also failing.

Base, like jav had also 2 games scheduled for weekend with caped crusaders and only teks having only 1 game. Unfortunately i do not really have data for some games here, so only results, difficult to comment much more. Ethereal had good start of season with 2 wins with legend ogron returning to the red ship. Renzi opted to use menelvagor as terrier and caped crusaders showed their very strong potential in this league dominating against terrorist. Dreamwins team did dispatch Crap Champions, but missing absurd was obvious in game vs renzis team, where it got just outspidered. Onlyteks had just 1 single game, where they lost vs ethereal, worst start of season goes to crap champions. They did miss their first round pick cripple though, so there is hope for them to improve in upcoming games.
