Week 1 matches start at 2pm EST Sunday, June 19th.
The first Free Agency draft will be taking place as well starting at 1pm EST. Once this has concluded, we will be testing out single-round matches with varying (shortened) match-lengths for the purpose of gathering information for qan's development efforts on TSL MMR.
When / Where?
Starting around 1pm EST (maybe earlier if zone is active) there will be Matchbots setup in each of the tw(d/j/b)d2 arenas running modified TWD matches
How quick / short are we talking?
Wb / jav matches can be set for players to have anywhere from 3-6 deaths and base matches races to 3-8 minutes. We ran 2 wb test matches last week with 5 & 6 deaths, and the average match time was a little over 6 minutes.
What's different about these and what are we testing out?
Other than the reduced deaths & time race limit, these "twd" test matches are ran much like wbduel / javduel / base where captains are manually picked and can freely add players from any squad.
As for what are we testing... we are essentially trying to do real-world testing to determine what the shortest game possible while still getting predictable results based on team composition for future TSL MMR qualification matches.
If you're not familiar with MMR or qualification matches...
MMR stands for matchmaking ranking (think DOTA, LoL, CoD, CS:GO, etc.) where each player is individually rated based on their ongoing performance. This is different than the static star ratings assigned currently for TSL & TWDT. These MMR ratings will be used to automatically create "balanced" teams for TSL and one day hopefully replace star ratings for TWDT.
Qualification matches are the matches "new" players play through to determine their initial ranking, which will change rapidly based on their performance each match.
tl;dr
