How is this anything new? Eating 5000 calories a day will make you gain weight, even if it's not fast food. Seriously, this was the most idiotic idea for a movie.

The whole point of the movie wasn't about how much calories he took in. It was the amount of food being sold to consumers by fast food companies such as McDonald's Super Size meal. People should understand that people are obese because of the amount of food you receive from the fast food restaurant. Then there are those people who just like to eat a lot.

I certainly thought it was about how many calories he took in, as that is what the whole movie is about. It's common sense that when you eat that much for a long amount of time, you will gain weight. It's not just fast food that makes you gain weight, it's everything.

I'M MAD AT THE FAST FOOD COMPANIES BECAUSE I ATE A LOT OF THEIR FOOD AND THEN I GOT FAT! IT'S THEIR FAULT, NOT MINE! (((((((((((((((((((((

You're missing the point. Thousands of people with careers eat fast food for lunch on a daily basis to save time, then wonder why they have health problems later on in life. The movie encompasses a lot more than "I'm going to eat McDonald's for a month and get fat to show that the food is unhealthy". Like I said before, that's just the premise for the social commentary he delivers.

I saw the movie, I enjoyed his point and commentary. It is just disguisting that America had to have a man deprive his body of magnesium and iron found in green vegetables (not the ones in McDonald's vegetables by the way due to preservatives and freezing) to realize that fast food is fat food.

However, the atkins diet can be very healthy. If you eat two servings of meat coupled with one serving of green vegetables (and non-starch containing foods) and one fruit serving a day this can be very healthy for you. What you must understand about the atkins diet is that it's trying to make you metabolize the food you eat much faster than it would if you were eating a high salad diet. This is the case because protein is very easily used by the body's cells (a large portion to muscle cells) and DNA. When you're eating carbohydrates, your body has to break down the carbs to glucose foods to be able to get energy in the form of ATP from cellular respiration.
Your body also produces a large amount of keytones in your body when you're eating meat. This is not good for the body. So, if you are eating an atkins diet, you should drink at least 3x the usual amount needed for a human. This comes out to about 24 cups of water a day. It isn't plausible to drink so much water. That's why many American's fuck up and find out it doesn't work.

If you eat the salad and fruit type diets coupled with proteins in some form every few days (such as an egg which has all the essensial amino acids needed for humans) you can be just as fit as using any other diet. However, if you're using this diet you may want to couple it with a vitamin daily. The thing about these diets is the food stays in your body longer and most of the food is fiber which ends up as waste. The part of the food that is carbs/sugar will be broken down to glucose (yes sugar is glucose or fructose) that the body can submit to its cells. Naturally, it would take longer for the body to break down carbs to glucose than to simply use the glucose (as done in the atkins or when eating fruit). So, the food will stay in your body longer than the meat because the food is a lower trophic level and contains more energy substance than the meat would. If you have a salad diet you'll be eating much less food per volume than the atkins diet because plants have more energy in the food than meat does (this is because the animal the meat came from is eating the vegetables/plants that you'd be eating on the salad diet; thus you skip a trophic level and get more food from the plants).

Anyway, the thing most Americans neglect is exercise. What I find works for me is a daily mile run when I wake up coupled with yoga asanas and a mile run before I go to sleep. These exercises only take about 40 minutes - 60 minutes depending how in shape you are. As you continue to exercise your body will produce it's natural pain killers. This is good because you'll feel better and won't have any aches if you have had aches. And, you'll actually burn the food you eat instead of sitting on your fat ass all day watching Sanford and Son eating cheetos.

                            So yeah, exercise or die.

The problem with north american life style is the excessive lazyness of everyone. People want everything this second and no one wants to do anything for themselves, including prepare food. Take me and my younger brother, who is 19, for example. We are both extremely lazy, but he spends anywhere from 10-14 hours on his cumputer EVERY DAY! I dont think I have ever once seen him actually make himself a meal. The most he will do is put a frozen pizza in the oven. While we are both over 6 foot, I weigh around 140 pounds and he weighs around 200 pounds. Now this difference is not a clear picture because we have much different body types. He is not fat at all and I am quite thin, but its still quite a difference for 2 brothers.

Another huge difference is in our physical fitness. I actually go out for walks when its nice. I also have no problem jogging a couple miles on our treadmile in 25-30 min or swimming a 100 laps in the pool. I worry about people like my brother because eventually he will be living on his own and be forced to get his own food. Having no expirience making anything for himself, coupled with his extreme lazyness, I know he will be eating out everyday. Throw in a lifestyle of little to no exercise, 10 hours of computer a day and it leads to some very scary health problems down the road

Oh, to add some irony, I'll mention that in 15 min or so I'll be picking up Wendy's for lunch at work. Jr Bacon Cheeseburger, Biggy Fries and a Coke. Same lunch I have had every day for 3 weeks ....
