  • RIP Phish

http://phish.com looks like it's really the end for these guys and it's too bad - they were one of my favourites.

I went through a time when I was really into phish, I still think they were a fantastic band, but I'm just not really feeling their music anymore.

sucks for all the people who are really into them, but I'm sure they'll work on other projects.

Haven't they already done this like 18 times? In case you can't guess, I am not a Phish fan (hint: it's because they are popular, not because jam bands are boring as shit), but even so, it's annoying when bands do shit like that. "we're breaking up, but temporarily, perhaps" "we're back!" "no, we are breaking up for real, we've realized that our fans care more about the light show than our music" "we're back!" "no, we are on hiatus, trey is in the mountains of india fucking dogs" "we're back!" etc etc

It's easy to insult them from the outside for this, but if you put yourself in their situation for a second, maybe it would make sense... you would get sick of touring, irritated by fans, tired of each other, but then you drop out of it and stay home for awhile, you'd miss it like crazy.

Yeah, but to me, it seems like an attention stunt when you know you have no idea how much you want to tour/if you want to tour/whatever, but you keep making press announcements about "decisions" that you've made.

Maybe but I've left pallies for real twice now... emotions get to you sometimes, especially if you're constantly on tour.. not that i've ever been on tour, but I would imagine it would be pretty intense, both in good and bad.

How would you guys define the term 'jam band'? Just wondering because my general understanding is that they're mostly young-ish bands who do a continuous "song" of 40-60 mins. Is that what you were thinking?

lol jam bands don't have to be young. grateful dead was just one example but then you can look at bands like gov't mule and the string cheese incident (both of which have members at least 40 years old).

edit: and yes we always appreciate the commentary of the indie scene fans but there is no reason to start bashing them for being boring when it's only an opinion. and to my knowledge they have only 'broken up' once before this back right before they mad round room. and they didn't say they were breaking up they said they were taking a hiatus. this time he said that this should not be confused as a hiatus

If I'm not allowed to bash jam bands for being boring, can I bash them for being a health hazard?
