  • great speech from al gore?

i'm not a big al gore fan, because he speaks in such absolutely boring terms, and his campaign was run extrememly poorly in 2000. but yesterday he made a speech that was pretty awesome. i wish i could have heard it live, but reading it was still pretty interesting. i just couldn't believe it when i read gore quote spc. charles graner in describing how he explains his part in the prison abuses at abu ghraib.

anyway, for those that care about politics, feel free to give it a peek.

A lot to read, I read the first half and skimmed through the rest.

From that, I agree with him that Bush's unilateralism has provided terrorism recruitment a rallying call. But I don't agree with him saying Bush made the world a more dangerous place when you look at all the angles. Yes more people in ME have become fundamentalist radicals do to the hatred of family members of accidently bombed victims, family members of Iraqi POWs, family members of dead terrorists, and just easily brainwashed youths mad at the US looking for a war like most teenagers do. But Bush's headstrong approach against terrorism has also forced the whole world to look at the issue and as such some have joined our war against terrorism.

In the two wars we had we liberated many people but have also gave terrorists a closer place from home to conduct their terrorism to propel their causes. Because all these suicide bombs are going off right next to Arabs many Arabs have turned to hate extremists that would kill their own people in such mass. That is why the world is safer because the evil face of terrorism has surfaced for all those to see.

Gore said the prison abuse scandals have dishonored and made us hypocrites. That I totally agree with, but because we are showing so much attention to this back at home many Europeans have regained faith in our democracy. It seems many here who used to be for unilateralism is not for it anymore, myself included. Although I still believe unilateralism can quickly fix some problems, it will ultimately create more problems then bargained for.

My two cents, we confronted terrorism with our rage, now it is time to work with the international community and making sure the seeds of democracy we have or are trying to plant reach fruitation and grow into a strong foundation within the ME. Democracy is the key to free-communication and success as a civilization, and in the long run this will ultimately defeat terrorism.
